Ayesha started Dusk really heavy handed with the whole "world is dying" thing (while still keeping the lighthearted feel of the franchise), but by the second game it felt like they wanted to completely abandon all the world building from the first game. Dusk could have been so much better than it was, and it's a huge shame.
I hope if they ever try another heavy plot like that they prepare themselves for the whole arc, and not just one game.

I always assumed it was because they had set her and Keithgriff up as big bad criminals on the run and even mentioning her name would make children cry and people shut their doors in disgust, but apparently not, she's back in Shallie plus looking exactly the same as she did before. What a disappointment.
I think if they had made Dusk a 4 game series that might have worked out, but then the investment in it is so large and the payoff is so low and the adjustments they made to each game felt really disjointed and you could tell it's because Gust was trying to find out how to fit in to the KT ecosystem.
My only regret is we never got to visit Central, but then a town that'd be that large would probably make the game crawl to 1fps on Vita.

Dusk was doomed from the start when Ayesha was dub only and the dub was severely incomplete because they don't have the budget to full dub. Was a shame, and then by the time they tried to remedy it by offering the future games dubbed, E&L was shit and Ayesha plus was vita only and no DLC voice pack was given. Then the Vita versions ended up being the definitive versions so nobody cares about base console Atelier anymore.

E&L was a really boring game. Super lax time limits meant time management didn't matter and you just had to waste time because there was nothing to do. Automatic item refills and homunculi cloning everything for nearly free meant resource management didn't matter. Alchemy was alright, but going through that minigame every time I wanted to make something got old really fast, and the best traits only being available from relics was super fucking dumb. Pretty much all the new characters aside from Escha/Logy were boring as shit. Combat against those bosses you could generate with field events was good, but you couldn't do it too much or you'd get overlevelled and overequipped and make the rest of the game pathetically easy.
Also the localisation was shit. I accept that's not really a problem with the game itself since the Japanese version is fine, but hey, that's not the version most of us played. We played the awful one.

I actually liked the characters in Eschatology.
Awin was chill as hell and I liked his storyline involving the Edge of the World. Reyfer was fun even if he was a bit shallow. Threia was basically femKeith and learning about her connection to him was neat. Lucille and Escha were both vanilla as hell but still cute.
Logy is my second favorite protagonist next to Ayesha and I like his backstory.
We still had Marion, Linca, Wilbell and Nio who were as good as ever.
The only characters that I just didn't care for at all were Katla and Micie.

The time limits in Arland were implemented vastly better than they were in E&L. In Rorona you have enough things going on that you never have that much free time. In Totori and Meruru you unlock most new things based on your progress instead of time so you don't have to wait. In E&L you get everything done super fast and just have to wait for the next assignment to pass so you can get access to new areas. And then you do and you finish everything there and have another two months of nothing fucking happening.
Totori and Meruru didn't have great casts, but they still had some good new characters, and they were helped by having more of the old cast show up. If Ayesha showed up in E&L maybe I'd complain less, but hey, she didn't. And E&L's localisation was way fucking worse than any of the Arland game's and you know it. Don't even try to pretend you don't think that.
