It really isn't, if someone only has a 1080p 60hz display the RX 480 is a much better purchase because it lets you buy a display upgrade, possibly a free-sync display as well, as it's only $209 currently for a 1080p 144hz display
and if you already have a 1440p display, the 390x/480 is going to be highly capable at a fraction of the cost of the 1070
It should last you 3-5 years if you dont care about playing every last game on the highest settings. Again, not quite sure what you mean. If you play video games you are probbaly playing mostly multiplats. There's nothing "wrong" with that. multiplats are the natural state of things. Every game will jump at the chance to be multiplat if they have the resources to do so. It''s why you have mobile games coming to PC in droves, and now even consoles have mobile ports, indie games, and even early access games. The lines between every platform are blurring, not just between PC and different consoles, but PC, consoles, handhelds, microconsoles and mobile. Eventually everything will be multiplat with crossplay on your phone, PC, tablet, VR headset and HTPC/console. COmpanies ra emuch more interested on creating platforms and an IoT then having discrete devices with exclusive software.
