I tried to get a refund for GSB2 after the age of Steam refunds, and despite the dev being a low-life backstabber who falsely advertised and left the game unfinished because they didn't feel it was making them enough money with prepurchases, censoring people who complained too, I was denied a refund.

Take this attitude with banks-- they will refund fees.
Take this attitude with phone, cable companies etc-- they will refund fees, reduce your bill etc.
it is a FINE line. But simply asking can yield great results, especially in the case of things like late fees overdraft fees etc

It depends on where you work. I used to work for a warranty company. If you can imagine "customer service hell", that would be it. No matter how nicely you ask, no matter how firm you are, we followed the rules. And if the rules say you're fucked, you're fucked. It doesn't matter how much you cry or kick or scream we wouldn't budge. And the people like you, who were polite but firm? They never won. In fact they were the easiest to get rid of.
To put it into perspective, I had a woman call me a racist goatfucker over the phone, and then compelled the power of Christ to banish me from this land, because I wouldn't fulfill her warranty request because of a factory defect. Reason? Because she didn't call fast enough.
