I think it comes down to the purpose of the game an the intended audience.

Having aim assists and lots of forgiving features is a great thing when you want to make a game that is accessible and casual.If the game is too brutal and difficult it pushes away a lot of people who aren't into that.

I would guess this means that Blizzard doesn't intend for Overwatch to be a hardcore competitive game and would rather it be a easy casual enjoyment game. It's justified if that is what they want to accomplish with the game.

I think what is happening is that a lot of people (at least around here) want a high skill game, but these revelations seem to betray the fact that Blizzard didn't intend for these games to be high skill games.

With hitboxes like these blizzard can get lots of people playing the game for the first time and immediately feel like they are pretty good at the game. While some people like a big challenge, if you hopped in the game and immediately got destroyed and wiped across the floor a lot of more casual type players would be pushed away.

As the video talks about, people like to feel like they are good at the game and that keeps them playing. Now people are realizing they aren't as skilled because the game was tricking them.

I can go boot up Quake 3 right now and play against skilled players no matter what server I choose.
If I join a Pub TF2 Server I'll see conga lines for days and people complaining characters are bullshit.

If you pay for a game you invest time into it, you want to feel like your investment was worth it and that forces the player base to understand and master the characters & mechanics.
TF2 is full of kids who just wanted a free game and aren't willing to invest the time needed to comprehend the mechanics. So they'll play for a while, ruin every game they participate in and uninstall the game- ruining the experience for the rest of us. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

The conga line was only an issue at its release. Since then, most people will just shit on those for doing it or tell them to hop servers if they want to be friendly. As far as complaining about classes go, it's usually just retards with like 10 hours in the game and think anyone worth a damn is OP.

I'll agree that most Quake 3 players still going would most certainly be skillful at the game by now, but most don't go into public servers in TF2 for a challenge. There are plenty of other servers that only take a short time to find with better players in general, and that's the small price to pay for having the game still be so popular nearly a decade later.

That's not true. You do break their aim, but you don't stop them from being able to hit you. It is still possible to adjust aim in-flight and kill the pyro. When I meet another pyro who knows what he's doing, we usually both airblast each other and shoot with shotgun in-flight.

And to actually reflect a projectile, which is what you need to not die if your opponent was able to aim at you in-flight, you need to time your airblast really well. And then you can only reflect some projectiles unlike Genji who reflects everything.

There is much more skill involved than just pressing a button and reflecting everything that goes into you for a while.

Overwatch's "lucksman" is every fucking weapon though. And it's even worse because Overwatch gives bonus damage on headshot for everything. The only weapons like that in TF2 are the lucksman and maybe the Medic's crossbow.

Coming into the thread to say that both games aren't very comparable. Genji is very squishy and can die in less than a second, usually.
The Deflect is on a cooldown, only deflects in front of you You can shoot around him and kill him with splash, or throw a flashbang at his side and stun him out of it, is VERY obvious when it's up, so it's only useful as a defensive mechanism or a well-timed counter play, lasts 1 second where you cannot attack or cancel it If you press it and they decide not to attack they will get the next hit in 100% of the time and will likely end your life.

Why are you acting like Airblasting is difficult at all? Everybody can fucking do it. And no, I'm not saying Deflect is hard, but dashing in front of a Hanzo when you see him prepping for an ult and then deflecting it back into his team before it turns into a Dragon is a million times more rewarding.
