I never understood why this was the worst received Kirby game. Everything I see is reviewers disappointed about it "not being as creative as Canvas Curse."
God forbid they make a new, normally structured Kirby game for the DS, it's always been one of my favorite classic style Kirby platformers.
>>340539618
Because it was a mediocre game with no extras you could 100% the first time through in about 3-4 hours
cuz is not amazing mirror 2
Kirby's Dream Course, Kirby's Dream Land 3, Kirby Air Ride, Kirby's Return to Dream Land, and Kirby Triple Deluxe were not received as well as Kirby Squeak Squad.
>>340540302
This was the issue I had with it. The abilites it introduces and the stuff you could do with them was fun, but it feels like there's just too little content to the game itself. You can easily 100% it in a day without even consulting a guide.
Having the most disappointing final boss in a Kirby game of all things kinda hurts a little too.
Too short. It was a blast while playing it, though.
>>340539618
combining abilities was a joke
>>340539618
It was just another generic Kirby game. It's sort of difficult to surpass such great games as Super Star and 64.
It just doesn't quite do anything super well and what not.
At least seeing Kirby be a dick and jump the gun was entertaining.
>>340540690
>Having the most disappointing final boss in a Kirby game of all things kinda hurts a little too.
not as bad as this entry
>>340539618
Not only are the extras really easy to find, the level design is just not good.
Often the levels just felt like blocks put in different positions instead of a cohesive whole.
>>340540382
>even if we get amazing mirror 2 now it won't be sprite based

>>340539618
I remember playing amazing mirror and then playing squeak squad, it really dissapointed me in how inferior it felt. Beautiful sprite art though, wish animal would make a return.
>>340541826
Fagolor was much better than Dork Matter, but they're both definitely in the bottom 5 Kirby end bosses.
>>340539618
Because both Mass Attack and Canvas are better.
>>340542223
Mass Attack is boring.

>>340542067
You meant Dark Nebula, right? Because that poor fucker was a midboss who got mistakenly hired to be a final boss.
>>340541826
0/10
The mixing abilities was top notch. Like what other Kirby game has that where you can make an ice sword?
Why did they change the name from Dark Zero to Dark Nebula?
>>340541826
He's a ripoff of Marx so he's at least half as good as that.
>>340542968
lolwut
you cant even die in epic yarn
>>340543327
Because he's not really Zero?
If I recall right he's just a very tiny piece of Dark Matter that wanted to be a final boss for some reason.
Abilities are pretty great along with mixing abilities, story, antagonists, and difficulty are some of the worst in the franchise, I know kirby itself is supposed to be lighthearted and not overly difficult but come the fuck on
>>340542878
Adv > NiDL
Better visuals, better minigames, better physics, much bigger field of vision
SS > SSU
You've got co-op and a TV, and the new subgames in the remake are boring rehashes.
RtDL > Robobot
Neither are great imo, but at least RtDL looks and sounds totally beautiful and its fun to play with friends.
DL3 > DL2
Kirby 64 has aged like milk, but it still has a lot of good stuff going for it that barely puts it above the GBA and DS games.
The only handheld Kirby better than its console counterpart is Canvas Curse.
Epic Yarn is a great game full of fun stuff, it's just not a challenge by any stretch of the word. But neither are any of the Kumazaki games.
I like all the handhelds, the console games are just better. Kirby just works better on them.
>>340542934
I wasn't talking about Dark Matter, I was talking about this Dork Matter. Don't insult people.
>>340543051
Agreed, poor thing. He came right out of left field too, they didn't give him any set up at all like they did Nightmare, Dark Matter, Zero, and Zero-Two.
>>340543327
Probably so people don't start thinking he's related to Zero, and because he's a star not an 0.
>>340539618
game feels like an afterthought with some interesting ideas that are never expanded on.
uses the life bar system which I always hated.

I know people like to stroke its dick, but SSU stages (the kirby ones mostly) were ridiculously short as fuck. Sure it had a fuck load of extra goddies but damn, the main course was not enough.
>>340541604
Well, I guess that makes Kirby 64 utter trash then.
>>340544316
That's the point, each sub-game is supposed to be short and have a different game design to keep things fresh.

Great Cave=Metroidvania
etc.

Kirby 64 did it right. Squeak Squad's idea of combining abilities was making ice/spark bombs and fire/ice/spark swords and that was literally it.

Kirby Yarn's challenge comes from 100%ing it.
You aren't even worthy.
I just wanna see Ghost again, possessing and controlling enemies is pretty neat.
Just hopefully it's not as gimped as the game made it when it came to moving around certain platforms.

No.
Not even a chance. You don't know shit. You don't know how hyped I was for this battle. Magolor was nowhere as boring was Dark Nebula. It was one of the best Kirby final bosses I ever fought.

Nah, besides being gorgeous DL3 has better gameplay mechanics, better levels, better enemies, better bosses, better atmosphere, and more friends. Helping a new character each level gives motivation beyond just completing the level or looking constantly for tucked away little collectables. Final boss is the best in the series imo. DL2 is great though.

>>340545504
I value originality and functionality over flash, flare, and spectacle. I don't mind judge things for being simpler than the other, as long as it's new and it challenges me or gets me invested. I disagree about Star Dream being more engaging.

>>340545781
Dude, you're the one talking in extremes. The subgames aren't really THAT short, I mean what did you expect? They can't make a full game out of each subgame when there are like 6 of them, plus extra minigame shit. I would rather a bunch of different games that add up to the normal length of a game than one really long game that stays the same throughout. Do you just hate variety or something?
>>340539618
I agree. I don't agree it's great, but it's nowhere bad too. The content was great, but it's little. The new copy abilities are good, with Ghost being the best, and the story is different. Also, combining Sword and Bomb with elements was really neat. The final boss was really disappointing, though.
I would give it a 7.

Also, it's the only game where Meta Knight and Animal Friends are in the same universe.
>>340540302
This, it wasn't bad, it just didn't impress in any way.
It's the weakest DS kirby by far.

I can understand and respect this opinion, I just don't share it. Other than Revenge of the King found the new games to be retreads of the games from the original, and Meta Knighting throughout the whole game was quite dull.
The Arena > Dyna Blade > The Great Cave Offensive > Gourmet Race > Revenge of the King > Spring Breeze > The True Arena > Meta Knightmare Ultra > Helper to Hero
>>340547269
The graphics are quite clean in Super Star Ultra, but I prefer Super Star's. There's a lot more expression and personality there, the art style has more variety in tone, and everyone is really cute, but not exaggeratedly so. Also, the graphics for all the cutscenes look like complete garbage in Super Star Ultra, compared to Super Star.
SSU didn't introduce us to Dedede's other theme, Super Star Stacker did.

>>340549923
Why not throw them at you, then have its pieces attach to itself as you break off more pieces of the access ark when it takes damage? Breaking away the access ark and revealing the face was cool, it should have continued to the full body. And I'm pretty sure the exposed bit over Nova's left eye was there by design, since it contours with his eye and shooting star perfectly.
>>340549790
>>340551401
I'm sure when it comes to lore NOVA might be designed like that either because it's older than the Star Dream/Access Ark and it might not even be fully completed.
If you look at NOVA you begin to realize how cluttered it is and that there's parts of it just completely missing.
I think the Access Ark Soul form or whatever is what NOVA was SUPPOSED to look like or USED to look like.

>>340552028
>If you look at NOVA you begin to realize how cluttered it is
That's on purpose, it's supposed to look like like some mystical wish granting machine. Like all those random pieces help him function and gather magic from the universe somehow, and the gab left above his eye shows you a big gear within him, assuring that he's fully mechanical. It's a really great timeless design, Stardream is kind of a sterile, less creative rehashing of it. And that's not an insult, it works in the context of the game, because HWC is probably not on par with Nova's original creator, which may have been some sort of Hephaestus type god.
>there's parts of it just completely missing.
I don't think so. It assembles itself
>I think the Access Ark Soul form or whatever is what NOVA was SUPPOSED to look like or USED to look like.

Mr. Miyamoto doesn’t seem to be the type to praise other people’s work, so he added that he thought Miyamoto regretted being forced to admit it. According to Wikipedia they pretty much went through hell due to barely not go bankrupt in 1995 eventually just residing in Japan for a while just "developing and publishing role-playing video games, pachinko games and mahjong games, and mobile platform titles in partnership with other companies such as NTT DoCoMo and Yahoo!." They partnered with Nintendo & GaijinWorks to bring their older games back on the Wii Virtual Console & to release a remake of Blaster Master (Blaster Master: Overdrive) so I guess they still have their IPs at least.
Their English site is stuck in 2010 advertising their VC games still but in Japan last year they apparently started re-releasing their classic PC games to work on modern PCs.

>Super Star Ultra beating Super Star
It makes sense, it's Super Star but with more content. All classic Super Star has is a different art style, multiplayer & a TV screen. While I say that though, I do gotta say I prefer the original as well.
>Kirby's Dream Land 2 beating Kirby's Dream Land
Dream Land 1 had more solid level design & gameplay but DL2 had more gameplay added to it with the inclusion of copy abilities & animal friends & was longer overall, so again it's understandable.

>Casual racing game where you only have to steer vs amazing platformers with lots of powerups that change how you play

And better looking cutscenes.
>>340561002
You can view those cutscenes in Super Star Ultra in the movie collection after you 100% the game.
>>340558094
As comfy as roboticization it can get.
>>340561091
So? You might as well just look them up on youtube at that point.

Classic super star has superior sound quality compared to ultra and kirby's movement is slightly faster by proof of his ice ability.
So, Haltmann Works Company built NOVA, right?
I mean, that's all but confirmed. They obviously made NOVA in it's early days, which influenced Star Dream's design. This also means they built the Lor Starcutter, which could also mean the Metal General and HR-D3 were built to travel and get it back from whoever stole it. Which is why their Security Force looks like Metal General.
i find it really hard to rank the kirby games in a tierlist
like dreamland 1, 2 and adventure are similar, but you can't really compare them to a collection like superstar.
64 almost feels like it's own thing, as do the other games
>>340562282
I really hope you're mocking those couple of retards who keep insisting "HWC was behind everything!"
>>340562282
No. And spoiler that shit.
NOVA was what Haltman based Star Dream off of as his ancient design doccument. NOVA is old as time immoral.
>>340561873
I'm just saying the game has both versions of cutscenes technically so that complaint doesn't really apply.
>>340561920
You're right on the sound thing, got a video comparing their speed though? Sounds believable but that's a weird detail they would change.
I rarely see people mention return to dreamland wii here
>>340562492
Well, then why do the Security Forces look exactly like the Metal General? And why does Star Dream look like NOVA despite it having been destroyed in Super Star / Ultra? It's obvious Haltmann tried to build Star Dream to grant his wish to see his daughter again, which implies prior knowledge of it.
They weren't "behind everything" obviously, but they've had to have a ton of influence since they had to have been around during the Dark Matter games in order to "clone" the Swordsman.
>>340548032
I finished the game and I didn't notice, what's the link with Super Star? It seems more like a 3D sequel than a Super Star Sequel
>>340562907
This game was really fun, i beat it last week
What's new in the Extra Mode?
Which non-spinoff Kirby has the highest replay value?
>>340562587
>that complaint doesn't really apply.
Of course it does. When you play the game, you have to suffer through Ultra shitty looking and sounding cutscenes. Tacking the originals on when you've already 100% completed the game is meaningless. And there's still the matter of Return of the King, Meta Knightmare Ultra, and the True Arena not having any sort of good looking SNES style cut scenes.
>>340563232
its been awhile since i beat it, but you have less health, there's more enemies and bosses have more moves. a couple of new boss forms.
>>340563350
Kirby's Dream Land.
>>340563463
Thanks.
>>340563232
You have half-health, enemies are generally larger and every boss & mini-boss are upgraded as labeled by the "Ex" in their name. It's pretty much the same otherwise beyond being harder.
>>340563357
I guess I get your point there. I really do wish the new cutscenes were made in the original style myself, I liked them a lot also.
>>340563350
Dreamland because it's so short.
Amazing Mirror as well (speedrunning, 100% treasures, doing the bosses in reverse order, multiplayer)

HWC workers discovered them at some point and tried to copy their designs for their own use. They have vastly inferior versions of all those things, they didn't make the originals. It's doubtful that a single one of their creations was invited/designed internally. They probably have scouts specialized in scouring the galaxy and finding incredible technology, which is how they have something resembling Pix and HR-E as well.
Plus, Egg Engines and Nova have nothing to do with what HWC does.
>but they've had to have a ton of influence since they had to have been around during the Dark Matter games in order to "clone" the Swordsman.
Doubtful. Perhaps they opened a random chest in some random location with a Dark Matter specimen inside. Dedede has several of them.
Remember, Dark Matter wasn't some short-lived event localized around Pop Star. It's likely they're older than life and have been all over the galaxy, like HWC.
HWC has not been involved in the Kirby lore at all until this entry. And that's a good thing.

>easily 100% it in a day without even consulting a guide.
This can be said for quite a few of them though, no? Maybe not without a guide, but still they go by quickly.
