I'd say play them in order, 1-6 and SF 1-3.
Playing them out of order just makes the worse ones a bit of a slog when you have to go back to them after playing the better ones.
The general consensus is that 3 and 6 are the best, and 1 and 4 are the worst (1 for lack of content and the maps being all fucked, 4 being the black sheep of the series), and 2 is considered the worst among the Star Forces.
But by playing them in order, you can get a better appreciation for how good the better ones are and how comparably bad the worse ones are.

The battles were pretty good, but felt a little clunky because of the landing lag. Also, the overall lower HP and lack of real combos meant the battles were fast + didn't really require any skill. I know they had the weapon triangle and element triangle, but I honestly never even paid attention, I won anyway no matter what.
The most disappointing thing was the customization. Since parts leveled up as you battled, you either had to stick with what you already leveled up, or use new parts and grind up again. I liked how custom robo arena did it, where the parts just had static stats and you could customize without worrying about levels and all that. The story was also pretty meh in LBX, I liked CRA's better.
The perfect robot fighting game would be a 50/50 cross of LBX and custom robo arena, taking the customization, story, and battles from CRA, and the polish + fleshed out systems from LBX.

It's really rusty, and some chips are very obviously good like the hero sword PA, and those 3 super swords in general.
Also chips like drain which is pretty much a dashing roll.exe attack.
Instead of styles it has elemental armor, and you best be pretty damned good at navigation because you'll get lost in that net so fast if you aren't.
Also, like MMBN2 it's easy to cheese the GMD, you can save in front of it and reload if you didn't get something you wanted. 1 is just a poorman's 2 but isn't terrible inherently.
