That was when the retarded crab dev took over and put in Trial of the Champion/Crusader. Every bad decision came in at that point on, manifesting most clearly when they dramatically nerfed the difficulty of the early Cataclysm heroics.
If TotC was the flap of the butterfly's wings, the heroics nerf was the hurricane making landfall.

I still remember how I was stripping naked doing dance with my friend in Stormwind, some people even gave us gold but then one gnome mage opened a portal into the outland. I remember jumping with my fried into that unknown place, and how we barely killed a...butterfly :D, it was harder than any thing we had before but we did it. So many found memories of it, too bad mmorpgs are dead now, maybe virtual reality will revive them after some time.

In my experience on WoW, the leveling back in Classic was my favorite part. The end-game is fine and all, but you had this major adventure trying to find good places to get XP. It forced you to explore the world, coming across beautiful scenery. You'd get a group of people to do your first dungeons.. All my best friends on that game, excluding the people that brought me into the game back in Gradeschool, I met in one full SM run. Our tank was a level 49, that helped us bumrush it, but we ended up having a problem with hordies outside and just ended up in the massive 1 hour standoff. It was great.
That's not even a good story of mine.
That's just a memory I can pull right now.
But I must put it to rest..
The gaming enviroment has changed. I have grown.
No game will ever replace the feelings I had for this game... no game could possibly sate the adventures I had in this game.

That's almost true.
What's impossible is enjoying leveling on another 10 character for every MMO that comes. Leveling has no interesting qualities except challenge and socialization, and all of that is aplenty at max level if the game is decent. Leveling has gimped gameplay, and there's no central goal for characters to come together for, except out-leveling wherever they are and PvP, and the leveling experience doesn't get better by playing it again on 5+ toons.
Star Wars Galaxies was better

the steady decline of WoWs quality and popularity started after WotLK.

I actually killed him recently on a 70 twink guild. Was so much fun.
Is this the greatest set of armor in WoW history?
>>340518220
Because most of WotLK actually wasn't good. 5-mans were worthless from day one. T7 and T9 were fucking worthless and T10 was mediocre, only Ulduar was actually good (and was the shortest patch). The newly introduced BGs were awful and the game would have been better-off without them in the rotation.
And most importantly, while they weren't implemented to the same extent as in Cataclysm and beyond, the damning design paradigms were finalized. For example, class homogenization had begun in earnest. Blizzard started making all but the latest of raid tiers obsolete. Features like RDF were implemented. They started treating player character as the #1 hero on Azeroth. And so on.
Just play for a few days on kronos till you have your fill like i did. Once you get level 30+ the game becomes unbearable grindy bullshit anyways. The beginning nostalgia is always fun though.
Say what you will about Legion gutting classes and PvP, the music is glorious.

Why is T6 pally using Thunderfury? Something like Reign of Misery, Hammer of Judgement or Tempest of Chaos would be appropriate.
What do you guys think happened at the meeting with WoW devs and Nostalrius crew?
I never started playing until Cata, after the game was already ruined. I decided to try out Nostalrius out of curiosity and ended up having way more fun in vanilla than I ever did playing Cata through WoD.
>people out questing everywhere
>some quests are genuinely fucking difficult to the point where there's always players looking to group up out in the field
>real sense of progression with the spell upgrade system
>dungeons are a real challenge for the first time in my miserable life
>up til 3 am with a group of bros I assembled, running Deadmines, healing as a druid
>takes like 10 tries to kill the final boss, feels great to finally do it
It's just absolutely amazing. So much better than modern WoW. I want Nostalrius back. What's even worse is that every new MMORPG to come out just copies modern WoW and offers absolutely zero PvE challenge.

It was literally like two people on the dev team pushing for it and no one else agreed
>>340527607
My thoughts exactly.
I get that you can get into WoW when you're 13 years old because 13-year-olds don't have the greatest mental capacity so it's actually a bit of a challenge. But leveling up in WoW as a non-retarded adult is really just dull. Do the same ability rotation on mob after mob after mob after mob. I really don't get how people can enjoy that.

Goddamn, the years I played this were some of the best. Being 18-19 and inviting my friends over with their PC's where we'd plan to play Quake 3 or CS:S all night and then end up taking our lvl 70's through instances, drinking cheap vodka mixers and staying up til 5am. Trying not to wake my parents.
Now my parents are divorced, the home I spent my formative years is gone along with those friends. Fuck, what I'd give to have those years back.

>>340516329
anon, do you make good money? if yes, just keep your sub active and casual go at it like I'm doing.
the $15 a month is so little, I just keep it up. whenever I feel like doing some pve, or running a dungeon, I log in and get it out of my system. I'll probably be good for a few weeks or so, but then I get the urge to jump in and just fuck around for a bit.

>>340529039
>What do you guys think happened at the meeting with WoW devs and Nostalrius crew?
>>340526729
Even if legacy servers did exist, they wouldn't be as good as Nost. They WOULD have a cash shop just like retail does and like every other private server does. The population would crash after a few weeks because the people playing there wouldn't be people who loved the original game, it would be a bunch of gamurr grrls and Youtube e-celebs. Not to mention people would be clamoring for convenience additions like linked auction houses and mounts that don't vanish the second you touch a drop of water or enter combat.
>>340529517
That's not true.
I agree that a lot of games these days aren't extremely challenging but most still go beyond just repeating the same button inputs over and over for hours on end.
Is Kronos any good? What's the population like compared to what Nostalrius was?
I've got the burning WoW itch.
>>340529204
Well, once you've played almost any game for hundreds of hours, mundane gameplay can almost always be reduced in similar manner. That doesn't mean you can't enjoy coming up with and utilizing subtle optimizations (both in terms of play, things like using Voidwalker's Torment manually to conserve mana, and in levelling routes and general efficiency) and most importantly, enjoying the game's excellent atmosphere.
The great thing about WoW is that Blizzard themselves are responsible for me not resubbing to that clusterfuck by occasionally giving me a free week to play/upgrading me to the latest shit expansion (after everyone else has played it forever and they're about to release a new one anyway) just to remind me how shit that game is now and how the latest shit expansion made the game even more shit.
THANKS BLIZZARD
lets face it
the reason why you want to play is for social you want to meet someone that you can engage in romance with on there
you won't
you will just keep leveling and fail to engage in any real conversation that is more than 3 paragraphs,
you will stop talking to them
they will stop talking to you
you are going to get sad and uninstall
>>340530254
Kronos 2 is dead from DDOS. Chinese IP's were banned or something so they got mad and fucked over the server.
>>340530412
The reason I want it is for forced social. It was going well with Nost when that was up.
If legacy servers come out, would you prefer
1. 1.12 client, all content in the game from day 1
2. 1.12 client, content progressively added (nostalrius)
3. Client progressively updated, content progressively updated (actual vanilla)
4. Other
>>340531123
The option 2.
1.12.1 is largely devoid of bugs, exploits and other issues that would have been ruinous in earlier patches (everyone and their mother would utilize things like reckoning bombs in authentic 1.1.0 patch), has less bad balance and has by far superior addon support with addons like Grid having been backported. Content should of course also be pre-nerf post-bugfix in addition to being gated (for example, buffed dungeon loot is a huge indirect nerf to early content).
>>340530296
I usually switch to another game well before it becomes mundane because I don't enjoy mundane game play.
Maybe I should look at it as less of a game and more of a way of relaxing and receiving a feeling of achievement.
>>340527414
