Ive played through it countless times to give it a fair shot at being good- theres nothing "contrarian" about disagreeing with a retarded mass of memespouters who never have a single argument for why is it supposed to be a good game even inside its own franchise

The game before it and the game after it are literally better in every possible way- MGS2 felt like a challenging arcade game with amazing guard AI, one big looping level, good graphics/ performance for a PS2 game, interesting plot etc

MGS4 obviously had better graphics, unique gimmicks that you wont find in other TPS games, automated stupid shit from MGS3 or removed unnecessary garbage alltogether, more technology and guard manipulation etc, much more weapons and overall deeper mechanics

MGS3 is praised because its LITERALLY babbys first game: the game

Its mechanics and controls make someone burst into laughter if they attempted it now after getting used to playing better games- most of the gametime is either you crawling in grass while being invisible, or browsing menus to either cure yourself, eat food, or to see which camo has the highest stats

most bossfights are very bad compared to the ones from MGS1 and 2- not to mention the characters themselves, I doubt those even need an explanation for why they are bad

Pic related is another stealth game that came out when MGS3 did- with incredible animations, proper controls, big, interconnected levels with multiple objectives, graphics that still hold up etc

MGS3 is the most overrated game of all time

Actually, it's the other way around. Linear games are so simple that you just do a "scene-by-scene" of sorts. Like a movie. You go from point A to point B, cutscene/cinematic, do something, boss encounter (if any), and so on. Rearrange the order of it, rinse and repeat.

Open world gives you more freedom, but you have to have something to do with it. It requires more effort in designing decent open worlds than decent linears/on-rails.

The problem with the open worlds in the industry is that it has devs like Ubishit that keeps making bad open worlds. What good is it to have a very big and detailed sandbox, when you've nothing to do? There should be something to do once you've finished the main quests/missions.

Look at GTA. The formula is simple, but it's fun because there's always something to do. You can fuck hookers, cause mayhem, collect various stuff (collectibles for some achievement or unlocks), steal various vehicles, steal weapons, try out mods, and so on. Linear games are very linear that you can't really have a different experience every time to play. Most don't even have mod support, outside of skins.

I'd take open world over linear, any day. I could handle the freedom. I don't need someone to hold my hand or be told what to do.
