Steam games use Steam DRM, except for a handful of games.

You don't even need the GoG Client to download/play the games.

Now that's a whole different story. Games like this are being sold everywhere, not only on GOG. Even when you buy a relatively new title it doesn't guarantee that devs will receive money.
So in the end it's just a matter of collecting games on your account. Cheaper than collecting Amiibo, anyway.

GOG doesn't have a varied enough library for me to get anything. I pretty much almost exclusively play Japanese games, and GOG's library is extremely lacking in that regard. The few that I'm interested in that are there aren't even on sale.
I'm currently waiting on the Steam sale since it actually has a library. I really wish GOG would open itself up more and devs would be more willing to release their games DRM free. Its a problem on both fronts, I'm pretty sure. I've heard tell of GOG rejecting games.

Buying old games on GoG is kinda silly since for the most part the money doesn't go to the original devs, and sometimes not even the same publisher, it's just some company nabbing old IPs. Why would you seriously want to reward those guys.

Valve turned buying shit into a game ages ago. You had one event where randomly assigned teams were competing over how much shit they bought. You had a prior event where buying and playing certain games would get you drops you could use to get games.

Rollback, you can still go back to the previous version after you update

You realise that GOG is short for Good Old Games, right? It's only recently they've started to carry new games. The whole point of the site in the first place was to be able to buy old games you couldn't legally get anywhere else anymore. Plus, all their shit's got no DRM. That's almost worth them not providing cloud saves (at least to me).

If by IV you mean VI, I'd recommend Oath. VI is the game that Oath and Origin based their engine and mechanics on, but it's a lot less polished than either of the two. Worth playing if you get the pack, but Oath is better.
IV is worth playing if you like the bump combat, but it's not on GOG and the only English option is a fan dub.

I'd recommend Ys VI after this point just to get the least refined/mechanically good mid-2000s Ys game out of the way. Story's pretty good, and you learn a number of key backstory concepts that games after VI have expanded on. Then move on to Oath since it's by far the most balanced mid-2000s entry, and the hardest on Normal.

Give Trails in the Sky a shot if you've got a hankering for story-centered stat-heavy adventure. There's also Xanadu Next on the way to GOG from XSEED and Falcom, which is a cool mix of Ys, the Brandish dungeon-crawlers, and various PC game influences.
