It's not all that good. The game is split into two parts, the one where you meet the girl and talk to her and the one after you start dating. First part is pretty straight forward and nice to play. Second part of the game has a HUGE amount of content and can be played with a real time clock. You set up dates with the girl, and if you miss it she'll get mad at you for it.
It's very immersive. Personally I think it's too much of an investment and not interesting enough but I can see how someone who tends to get into things too much can spend like more than half a year on this game.

Doukyuusei was one of those games that made the transition from the eroge medium to the consumer market. I guess it was really popular back in the 90's as Doukyuusei 3 was one of the most anticipated eroge of that time. Also, Doukyuusei 2 was one of the most sold games for the PC-FX, roughly every owner of the console bought the game.
