Which do you have?
Are you upgrading to any of the new cards that've been announced? If so, what vidya are you looking forward to maxing out?
I've got a stock 660ti, and I'm upgrading to a 1080 FTW.
Looking forward to maxing out GTAV and Witcher 3.
>660ti
So I assume you play at 1080p 60fps?
The gtx 1080, and the gtx 1070 as well, are completely, utterly overkill for 1080p 60fps gaming. These cards are 1440p or 144hz cards. I mean it's your money, but just know you're wasting your own money by buying graphics cards that overkill for 1080p 60fps.
>>340375556
not op, but going with a 1070 and 144hz is my plan
I hope you have a good cpu and motherboard to support that fucking card.
>>340375556
I play 1080p at whatever my card can manage. I am getting a 1440p 144hz monitor. I'm super stoked.
>>340375647
Same here
>>340375656
I wonder will my 3570k be a bottleneck?
>>340375656
CPUs bottlenecking GPUs are much leas of an issue these days.
>>340375824
You should be fine.
Have a Sapphire Tri-X 290 here.
Gonna get that sweet sweet 490 once it's announced.
Is the 480 supposed to be on par with a 390x?
>>340375327
I love my 780ti.
I just splurged and bought all new computer parts today
>>340376036
>tfw I was considering a 390x before the 480 was announced
That price point, so good.
If I'm gonna get a GTX 1070 and I need a GPU now, can I buy a 970 from EVGA's site and then use their step up program to upgrade to a 1070 when they're released? I'm getting extremely impatient and I don't have a GPU right now to play precious vidya.
I want to build a desktop after 12 years. I'm only gonna be on 1080p 120 because that's all my tv shows. My friend said I could do well with R9 290x or 970. Is those good cheap cards, don't want to spend more than $250 (ebay or newegg).
>>340376232
Well, go on, show us.
I'm going to buy the 480 and hope to get 1440p at 60fps steady
Am I wrong to think this is a possibility?
I have a 980 Ti. Pic related to be specific.
Not upgrading this year since I have absolutely no reason to. I play on 1080p 60hz TV.
>>340376326
The 1070s come out on the 10th, you can wait two days man.
>>340376394
Yes.
Have 770 with 2 gigs. It's a pain in the ass that games require a shitton of vram I don't have, so I'm planning on getting 1070
>>340376484
what are you basing this off of? No benchmarks out yet
>>340376465
I want the ACX cooler though, fuck stock coolers. And it's gonna be like a month before they're released, tested, good drivers, and all that shit.
>>340375327
390 here. I should be fine for a while.
>>340376348
1080 and a i7-6700K along with it along with a new case and mobo. Upgrading from fairly old shit and a 970 which barely run games well with my new 1440p monitors
>>340376394
I don't think you'll be able to do 1440p 60fps maxed in newer games, but with some settings turned to high instead of ultra you might hit it.
>>340376250
>built my computer last year
>300 series gets announced
I fucking hated myself for a good month.
>>340376575
Then yeah, you can do that, I think. Make sure to read all the info they have on the step up program to be sure you're doing it right. I've never done it, myself.
>>340375327
I have a 4GB GTX 680. I'm hopefully going to be upgrading to a GTX 1080 in a few months, with a waterblock to add it to my custom loop (my GTX 680 is air cooled). This venture might get costly because I'll probably also need to add a 120x120mm radiator to my loop to compensate for the additional heat (I've got a D5 pump though, which should have no trouble driving a CPU, GPU and 360mm worth of radiators). I'll probably do it as a Christmas gift for myself. Hopefully by then there are some good waterblocks available.
>>340376758
Man, I've always thought watercooling was neat, but I've never OC'd hard enough to need it.
My 290 can't get any drivers to install. Even tried new BIOS. Still no luck. I shipped it to my bro in AUS for warranty. He's planning to wait this June for 480.
I'm a poorfag who still uses a GT630
>>340375556
well with 1080 you can 1080p 60fps for pretty much the next decade so I don't know if it actually is a waste
I'm upgrading to a 1070 fromintel HD 4000
>>340378057
With 1070 too, actually. Maybe not on ultra, though. It's just ~20% slower
thinking of getting my first gaming pc for when the 480 comes out, how good do you figure the Witcher 3 would run with a 480 and an i5 6500
>>340375327
I have pic related. Since I play 1080p 60 Hz it's ok, although it's definitely starting to show it's age with the latest games.
Say /v/, I'm seriously thinking about getting a gtx 1070, it's seems to be a decent jump in performance from my dusty 770. Might experience a little bit of bottleneck with my fx8350, but it shouldn't be anything to worry about considering it's OC'd to 4.6 GHz.
I was wondering though: when are third party 1070 gonna hit the market? I know the official release date of the reference 1070s is June 10th, but I'm not getting that impotent fanlet cooler.
>>340375556
It's called future-proofing. The 1070 is an extremely cost effective card that will guarantee you'll run ANYTHING at 1080p60fps for years to come.
>>340377342
There are benefits to water cooling even if you don't OC-- the biggest one being that you can have the fans run at a very low RPM which makes the performance whisper quiet.
>>340378214
Ouch. Have you only ever had onboard?
GTX 970 aka "Meme card"
it runs everything I throw at it,
no plans on upgrading anytime soon.
>>340378408
yessir. I'm ready to see the light.
I also only had dial-up internet until 2012 when I moved out on my own
>>340375327
I have a 970
I use three 1080p displays
I'll buy a new card once they make a $300 one that average games are capable of 4k/60fps
>>340378331
Eh, the fans on my rig are already almost noiseless even at higher speeds. Honestly I'm pretty amazed at how far fan tech has come since the days of jet engine FX 5800s. But still, fair point.
>>340375556
1070 can't even hit 60 w/hairworks.
i have an xfx 1gb radeon 7850
I think ill upgrade to an r9 480x for $200
im a poor college student so im not sure if its worth it.
>>340378674
That's not really a valid metric. Hairworks is poorly optimized gimpworks and doesn't even look good.
>>340378516
Oh, man. I wish I could experience the joy and ecstacy you're in for for the first time again. Cherish it, man. And don't forget it's okay to cry a little.

>>340376394

No more 720p gaming for me.
Also, my air conditioning costs will go down.
If you buy any card from nVidia before they actually give you 2x performance over Maxwell AND HBM then you are simply retarded. The AMD competitor to the 1070 is only 200$ and has HBM right now.

>>340379263
Oh shit, really? I'm on a 780m right now.
>>340379263
You know what feels really shady about them selling it that low.
That they almost know its a fucking flop and they just want to sell as many as they can to poorfags until they announce the ultra 480 for $500
Just did a semi-major upgrade and sold my 980 Ti for $550 to get a GTX 1080, got a new case, and some better RAM then what I had previously (32GB is absolutely overkill, but RAM prices for DDR3 are so cheap right now, fuck it).
I do like the 1080 and I have not had the issues other have. However, if you can get a 980 Ti for $350 new or used, or a 1070, you are good. It boils down to your resolution at the end of the day, and framerate you want to play shit at.
i don't get the appeal of the 1070 and 1080.
according to steam hardware surveys, virtually no one games at higher than 1080p. those cards are built for 1440p, using them for 1080p shittery is just consumerist waste.
these cards are in a weird spot where they're too powerful to be useful to 95% of pc gamers. there's never going to be a time in the next 5-6 years where a gtx 1080 is appropriate for 1080p 60fps gaming.
i7-2600k + GTX 560
I was going to buy one of the new cards but Denuvo hasn't been cracked so there's no point.

>>340379015

>>340379341
Not really. Nvidia game themselves more time to produce the 1070, and uses more readily available parts than the 1080 (namely gddr5 vs gddr5x). They might sell out, but it won't be as bad as the 1080.
>>340379445
Doesn't matter.
With your CPU, you'll be bottlenecked by anything more than a 980.
No point.

They're too powerful for 1080p ultra but not powerful enough for shit like hair works and downsampling. They're shit for 1440p too because GDDR5X isn't good enough.
They are cuck cards and you should not buy them, but everyone will anyway because they're retards.
>>340379484
Plus, all the aftermarket boards will be made in greater numbers for the xx70 cards.
Allegedly, EVGA is launching an aftermarket 1070 the same day that the reference comes out.
>>340379450
but much like resolutions higher than 1080p, no one is buying VR stuff.
for good reason too. VR is entirely minigames and little tech demos. in terms of gaming, it's just as gimmicky as the wiimote/psmove/kinect because it doesn't allow for proper movement of your character, which limits the amount of games that can be made for it.
>>340379475
Anon.. Don't question it.
>>340379390
8Gigs of VRAM. More power to play unoptimized games at 60fps. You can downsample other games.
>>340379390
1440p and 4k monitors haven't taken off because there wasn't the graphics cards to power them. This fixes that, especially with the 1070 making 1440p gaming cheaper.
>>340379484
I hope you're right
>>340379367

CPU and GPU are most important. Nowadays GPUs are the bottleneck so GPU is probably most important because most decent CPUs will do just fine.
RAM is mostly the same, as long as you have 8gb of DDR3 or DDR4 you're doing great. (difference between DDR3 or DDR4 is minuscule by the way)
rest of stuff is just system health. you want a well built motherboard that has good warranty and fits all ur shit.
you want a case you like b/c you have to look at the damn thing for the next decade and you want it to fit all of ur shit inside of it.
power supply needs to be from a reputable manufacturer with the necessary wattage and a good warranty
you might look at a aftermarket CPU cooler if you're overclocking or want something quiet or fancy, but the stock cooler that comes with the CPU is usually just fine.
then there's peripherals like disk drives and dildo holsters.
I'll play in 4k when a single card can support 60fps ultra 90% of the time.

personally myself, I'm waiting until the high end ATI cards to come out and then see. At the very least to hope it drives prices down at least a little before I choose.
Tho if the ATI card has decent/better performance at a decent price difference then I may just go that option instead
>>340381172
True but there's also the fact that there are only about 3 of these threads at one time, max. At any given point in time no matter when, be it E3 or Christmas, there are always a minimum of 10 console war threads or some redundant, pointless thread bashing Sony or Nintendo.
>>340375327
I have an R9 380. It plays what I want well enough at 1080p. I probably won't ever get a new card because the amount of new games I play is less and less every year.
I'm going to stick with my 970 until 4K @ 60fps is viable

I would stick with a 970 or the RX 480 when it drops at the end of the month. If the GTX 1080 can't do 4k at 60fps then it's not worth the money. No reason to upgrade if a card can't do that.

770 fag here too.
I think I'm going with nvidia, I literally can't with AMD's nonexistent driver support. Last week I spent couple of hours trying to find and install a driver for some retarded mobile GPU on my laptop at work. Turns out that for many mobile cards AMD has literally no standalone drivers and their site forces you to download and install their catalyst bullshit a thousand times without ever getting the dirvers you're looking for.
As far as nvidia's drivers being shit and making houses burn down, that's as meme as memes get. Most of my friends are nvidiots and I never, ever heard anyone having temp issues with their GPUs. Same goes for my gtx770 - the shit stays at 72-75 degrees at full load.
The 480 looks like a decent card, but I don't have much time nowadays and I just like to plug my new GPU in the slot, install the fucking drivers and be done with it. And from what I know and hear (never really used an AMD GPU, except from a few mobile cards, 2 of which literally burned the fuck out), AMD is decent, but shit enough in quite a few departments, both hardware, software as well as customer service wise. And that's enough for me to go nvidia.

Longevity anon.
Everyone who isn't a moron knows that 1080p is a perfectly good resolution and that unless you are using a massive screen you will not really be able to see much difference at higher resolutions.
Thus people buy a 1070 or 1080 so they can play their games at max settings and 1080p resolution for the next 5 years before having to upgrade. At which point they will be able to make a massive leap to whatever truly revolutionary leap in technology requires that much more power to run instead of having to upgrade their cards every 1 or 2 years just to keep up because they keep buying stuff that's barely good enough to run Ultra and then quickly gets out paced.

I have a shitty R9 270 that requires disabling 2D for it to not crash due to low voltage in 2D mode while playing back videos in brower.
80 bucks though, can't complain. It plays every game decently. Helps that I've reverted back to a 1680 x 1050 monitor for now due to other monitors that are 1080 or 1200 being dead.
Will either upgrade when I have money left over for a big ass 21:9 screen or finally get into VR. Don't know what I'll get, but I don't think I'll stick with AMD.

even though the 1070 currently does great at 1440p, it's probably not powerful enough that it'll still get 60+ fps with everything maxed in games a year or two from now
that's where g-sync comes in. in shit that's already out or not that demanding, your 1070 will plow through it and you won't get any tearing plus superior image quality at 1440p. in more demanding stuff and shitty AAA ports, your experience will be much less jerky and significantly more smooth when you drop below the 60fps threshold thanks to g-sync. I'm on team red but my freesync monitor has been my favorite pick up in the last couple of years, 45fps now looks and feels nearly as smooth as 60+.you should still wait for the rx 490 to be shown most likely at e3 in the upcoming weeks and grab a freesync monitor instead though

I'm thinking that when the 1070 and 1080 come out (both of which are better than the Titan) all the austic people who need "The best GFX" will sell their Titans. I'm up in the air about G/Freesync. It looks nice, but I'm not sure if it's +$150 over just using vsync in non-twitchy games or dealing with the tearing levels of nice.
going to get newest Titan
sold all my old parts already now sitting here and hoping shit to release lol
>>340375647

not going to happen, you need 4k 60-70fps capable card for 144hz 1440p
>>340390957
you will have to wait until 2017 for new titan
>>340375327
upgrading to 1070 from 970 once third-party cards are announced. I'm probably not going to go above 1440p so the 1070 is perfect for me.
>>340384497
No dingbat, the point is that the price needs to come down on 1440p monitors.
>>340390951
>just using vsync in non-twitchy games or dealing with the tearing levels of nice.
there is no tearing at 120hz+ at any fps, at 144hz you cna't even tell what fps it is if it doesn't go below 40
I see fs/gsync useful only for laptops or low freq monitors
I'm going to be laughing so hard when nvidia gimps these cardss while my 290x is still as fast as ever
>>340391037
maybe but the chip for 1080 ti and Titan is already around and since Nvidia keeps same release patern it should take that long
Remember when I bough 980 short after 980 Ti released and the Titan wasn't worth it even tho 980 was decent overall

So your upgrade theory is, that instead of buying a newer model you'll be spending a little bit less on a overpriced older model?
That's fucking retarded, get a 980ti or don't bother at all with old cards, AMD's cards will probably be better than the rest of the 900 series, and they could even release something better as flagship

Not upgrading this year because I mostly play old crap anyway. It's good enough for new games but it's starting to get old. The gigabyte 2-fan version keeps temps really low but it still can't compete the tiny 750ti

>HD 7850
>R7 260X
>R7 360
then there is no reason to upgrade. Just reduce a few settings. It's impossible to tell a difference between Ultra and Medium details anyways.
Friends basically told me what parts to buy and helped me build it, has been fine for the past year and a half playing games on medium to high at 60 but in the future I know I'll want to upgrade, what parts need upgrading for the future the most? Thought about buying a CPU cooler as the stock one is starting to get annoying with how loud it can get, doesn't make much of a difference though.
Excuse the resolution, anything other than native on my monitor doesn't display.

Nope, the 8gig version is expected to stay between the 390 and 390X maybe the 490 or 490X will give us some nice juice.
I have a GTX1080. I upgraded from a GTX660. I haven't had the thermal issues that were said about the card. I'm guessing it's because I only play games at 1080p and not 4k. So I'm not pushing it hard at all.
Highest temp my card got to was around 70, and that was with Black Desert Online with the highest settings.
>>340378057
Nah, just until the next driver update.
On a 4670k + GTX 780 setup.

>>340394642
>I heard it's a drag putting in a cooler after the motherboard is inside the case, but I guess I'll just be cautious when installing it.
Depends on what case you've got, if you're lucky there'll be a cut-off on the other side of the rig and you can just install your cooler through that if it fits.
If there is no cut-off at all you're shit out of luck and will have to take out your motherboard and everything, with the one exception being if you got a cooler (like the TX3) that just clicks in place, but they tend to be shit so don't do it.

>>340391665
My upgrade theory is get a very powerful card for a fraction of its value due to the new cards depressing its value far lower than it would otherwise be. Performance wise it will still top literally every game for years to come.
Its just an idea anyway, I will wait to see what happens with the pricing before I actually do anything. Most likely I will just stick with my gtx960
>>340375327
I'm using a R9 390 and I'm not planning to upgrade for some time given that exactly 0 modern game interests me.
I have a 660, buying a 480 soon along with new monitors to replace my old as fuck 1680x1050 junk. hopefully the new card will last me for ~2 years then I'll replace my whole computer
Eh 1080 gtx might be a great card but its performance is stuck in this weird loop between being too weak for 4k/60 fps gaming and too strong for 1440p gaming. Unless you're willing to buy an IPS 1440p 144-165Hz monitor that costs as much as the card itself you're shit out of luck.
So far benchmarks showed that 1070 gtx is easily capable of running maxed 1440p games at 60 fps - As a rule of thumb you can assume that your performance will be slightly better cuz reviewers in benchmarks have tendency to crank up every single most useless detail out there (in 1440p you won't feel a difference between MSAAx2/x4 same way you can't really tell a difference between x4 and x8 at 1080p). So really 1070 gtx is more than enough to run current games in 1440p/60 fps. 144Hz is a meme imo anyway and personally it tires my eyes. Personally I'll pass and wait till Christmas deals on amazon, this way I've managed to buy 2 970 gtx for $200 each last year.
>>340400463
I'm going with 1440p@144. GTX1080 can currently be an overkill for it, but I surely won't mind that extra performance once more demanding games come out in a year or two. On the other hand, it is struggling to maintain stable 60 fps at 4k, so any future demanding games would be much less playable.
>>340400769
But both 1080 and 1070 can't reach stable 1440p@144 without sacrificing details etc. I dunno, maybe it's just me being graphic whore but 144Hz only has an appeal in fps games.
>>340401008
I'm honestly fine with anything above 60. Nice to have more, but ultimately it's a luxury. But if I see any drops below 60, time to tweak graphics options.
Have a 7950, building a new machine this winter debating between Vega and 1080 but might decide neither is worth it and cheap out like I did last time since Polaris sounds like it will be good bang for the buck.
I am waiting to get a new 1060 instead of buying an used 970 for less than 250usd. Is this a good choice? Honestly both cards are overkill for 1080/60 and my cpu.
When's the next Radeon meme card? It's either that or a 960 for me.
gtx950
I like it, but disappointed with I can't keep stable 60fps in Overwatch unless I play it on the lowest settings.
If I play it on medium/high settings it dips in the 50's at time and though I'm not really noticing any choppyness in the framerate, it bothers my autism.
Do you think getting a 1070 will be worthwhile with a FX8350? Or would getting the RX 480 be enough for solid 1080p for the next few years?
I know the FX8350 isn't the best processor, but it's damn easy to get second hand cheap so it's great as an entry point. (Kind of like how the Phenom 2 X4 955 Black edition was for a long time)
Upgrading from the Sapphire R9 270X 4gb OC edition. (Which is a pretty solid card. It can play Battlefield 4 on Ultra at about 40fps average. So on High settings, a lot of games would get 60fps still)
Maybe I should save up and hold out though. RX 490 maybe? 1080ti? It's a tough call.
I don't mind upgrading to another PC eventually with an i5/i7 processor. Just costs too damn much atm since I work part-time.
This one I got for £400 I could use in my arcade machine as an emulation/media box/Backup PC. It would be more than capable.
>>340405361
RX 480 will be more than enough. If one day it won't be enough, just buy a second one.
I got a 770 but I'm waiting for the 1070, how long will it take for the non founder edition cards to come out? or shit even be in stock at this point
>>340405485
That's what I thought anon.
I think I'll grab the 8gb version. I got a budget of about £300-400 on a graphics card upgrade.
Then later I can grab another 8gb one. (Or maybe get two now. Depends on how much they actually are when they come out)
Worst comes to worse, when it comes to upgrading the CPU (which, lets be honest here I could probably put off for a few years still if I don't play something CPU intensive like Arma 3)
I'd keep the 270x as a spare. Maybe to put back in when I convert it to an emulation box.
I heard Direct X12 and Vulkan actually give the 8350 a small boost? Is that true? Like the Phenom II I hope that, as games use more CPU cores, the processor might find a bit of a niche for itself.
>>340405591
The aftermarket 1080s are coming out on the 17th, and the 1080FEs came out on the 27th, I think? So, however many days in between is likely the same time between 1070 reference and aftermarket. Though there's been a rumor floating around that it's going to release at the same time. I think it's bullshit though, nvidia wouldn't want the competition and would probably have entered deals with AIBs to have them release their aftermarket cards staggered to the reference card's release.
>>340405591
Probably not until at least the beginning of next month.
The initial release is on June 10 and I would say you've got at least 3-4 weeks after that until everything is properly out.
So around June 30/July 1.

As a computer engineer, I always have one suggestion for people who are building a PC for the first time.
Before you build a PC, go to one of those super discount places and buy a hyper shit tier computer, or even better get one from goodwill/out of someone's trash/etc.
Now, take that bitch apart, and put it back together. That'll be a good test for when you make your real build, and it'll actually be harder because shit tier computers are shit.
It has the added bonus of teaching you how nice it is to have your cables managed properly.

Ah anon. That is not bad advice. Gets me nostalgic.
I remember myself having an old Tiny brand PC as a kid with windows 98.
That computer was a load of shit. Hardly any game wanted to work on it. Driver support was terrible. I couldn't even run Toonstruck on it.
Overheated to the point it would randomly turn itself off. It was cheap junk. Windows 98 was pretty fucking awful. I don't care what anyone says. ME edition was literally the worst. All the shitty parts of 98 with worse compatibility.
2001/XP was like a fucking second coming of Christ.
Office Dell PCs used to be a real nightmare too. Low profile is not good for even light gaming really. But they were free from the skip so I can't complain really. (Dumpster diving is fun)
My first laptop was a shitty HP laptop with a intel 945 intergrated graphics card. It was a fucking nightmare.
Going from this to my slightly used £400 build is so exciting. It's like escaping from the Ghetto.

This. This is how much people hated Windows ME.

XP was basically the first time I started really enjoying computers (I was like 7 when it came out, back off /g/), while 7 was also breddy gud I still XP the best thing MS did barring things like AoE.
>the future of OS's is closed gardens
>>340408606
>to the point you could smell burning electronics
How do you even fuck up that bad?
I have one of EVGA's 980Tis.
I'm thinking about the 1080 but we'll wait and see how well msi's runs.
..Or if there's one that matches my black and white rig.
>>340408764
The disk defrag on WinME was notorious for killing drives. Tech sites were constantly telling people not to use it.
>>340408764
In theory. ME had literally the worst driver support known to man, so I could imagine the driver probably didn't regulate the HDD temp at all.
ME pretty much failed to do basic hardware control on all accounts.
GTX670 but I feel it gets ever so slightly worse with each driver update. Still works fine for most games on 1440p and medium-to-max settings though, probably won't upgrade for a while, I'd rather do it when I build a new rig.

Itll be a good card but will require a specific VR headset to use, which will probably cost more than the card. So if AMD gets many people to switch to the RX480 and VR becomes a big thing owners will have to buy the RX specific VR
>not waiting for HBM2 cards
Just get some intermediate card when prices drop, like a 970 or 390.
Sapphire 2GB 6950 here, still runs like a champ, 5 years later
However, I'll probably pick up a 1070 soon for some sweet 1440p, once EVGA releases them
>>340409506
>card specific VR
This will cost them dearly, this better cost them dearly.
Upgrading from a 5870 (yes, it's six years old) to a 1080 when the aftermarket cards come out. Actually I'm just building a whole new PC with a new monitor (ULTRAWIDE MEME) as well, don't really care about the price because in my experience having a good PC is worth the cash.
>>340406821
Fuaakkk thats an oldie
Anyone with a gtx 970 or better that still plays on handhelds or old consoles?
I have this. It more than meets my needs.I built my PC last week.
Grabbing a Fury during a Christmas sale on Newegg followed by unlocking all 4096 cores was a great present to myself as I was replacing my Phenom II system with an i7 setup, and considering I'm not leaving my U2410 (1920x1200) anytime soon, I'm probably set for another 3-4 years
I don't "get" this sudden and artificial push for 4k as the new standard, not even the 1080 can drive 4k comfortably while maxing shit out in the process, and I'd rather have a pretty game than a huge resolution, especially since the current lineup of 4k monitors with any given adaptive sync implementation are 16:9 TN panels
>>340410397
You really couldn't wait another few weeks to get a card that's twice as powerful for nearly the same price?
>>340410794
It would have been at least $100 more than what I paid, and I already overshot my budget by a couple $100.
>>340381042
wait for AMD's lineup
>>340393972
It takes up way more ram and cpu usage than previous editions and has a bunch of annoying features you can't turn off.
It's all a matter of preference, though. It does boot faster, and dx12 is pretty great.
There's no reason to buy such cards.
How much of a consumerist cuck do you have to be to blow $700 on a GPU so you can play console ports?
>>340410794
1070s are like $400+. 970 is a better deal for nonmemers because it's cheaper and is actually made for 1080p 60fps which 99% of gamers use.
>>340375327
thinking about buying 1070
>>340411942
t.poorfag retard
>>340412987
Not really.
i still have a gts 450 (its shit, runs loud and doesnt even have a fuckign hdmi port)
i mostly only play early-mid 2000s shit when i use my pc but if a modern pc exclusive comes long that i actually want to play ill upgrade then
Do any of you wise gentlemen could tell me if my motherboard or processor would be a huge bottleneck for a 1080 please ?
Poorfag. if i just want 1080p max settings, can i get a 960 instead of a 970?
>>340413285
no you're fine
i would consider going up to 16GB ram these days though, 8GB is starting to get tight for most people
660 here
>skeptical about buying Nvidia because of the whole 3.5 fiasco
>skeptical about buying AMD because I've never had an AMD card
>>340413387
Maybe not max settings, but 1080p 60FPS shouldn't be too hard with that. I think. Google it.
>>340413387
The new wave of consoles will have a better card than you.
>>340413387
Not max but highest textures, a little AA and 1080p will be no problem for most games now and probably the next year+
>>340413537
>nvidia
>better cards, better performance
>intentionally gimps old cards with shit tier drivers so that people upgrade
>scummy business practices such as bribing devs to fuck over AMD
>AMD
>worse cards, worse performance
>very cheap
>long term support for all cards
>shit tier drivers, putrid shit tier software
Pick your poison
>>340412094
>400+
380 for non founders edition.
Also, anyone with foresight will buy a card that will continue to be able to play at max quality for a few years rather than buying something for slightly less that will ultimately not be able to play games at max quality even at 1080p 60fps in like a year.
>>340413662
That won't matter much though because multiplat games still have to be built from the ground up on the original PS4 and Xbox one. The updated consoles won't increase the graphical ceiling for PC gamers, they're just allow some console games to enjoy the fidelity that PC players have.
>>340413387
just go for RX 480 ($200 maybe a little more[+50?])
literally no reason to upgrade yet, hitting 60 on high/ultra on everything so far
>>340413738
>>better cards, better performance
literally only for the top, top tier, like the gtx 980ti but no one buys those.
AMD outperforms NVIDIA from the lowest end all the way up to the R9 390 which outperforms the GTX 970
>290 outperformed 770
>390 outperformed 970
>hmmm, will the 490 outperform the 1070, who knows?!?!
NVIDIA is only relevant in the $500+ range.
>>340413969
I'm assuming we're talking good cards, anon.
If you're going to buy a crappy budget card, it should be blatantly obvious that AMD is the choice because they're the budget brand.
>>340414034
If you're describing the R9 390 and GTX 970 as "crappy budget cards" then you don't know what you're talking about.
>>340413425
Thank you anon.
Yeah I'm upgrading to 16 at the same time.
>>340378293
>that will guarantee you'll run ANYTHING at 1080p60fps for years to come.

holy shit there are people this retarded
>>340375327
>he fell for the 1080 meme
>>340380989
literally all you have to do is lower the shadows and purehair a notch and it'll stay @60fps/1080p
>>340391067
no they dont, there are all types of 1440p
theres 23 inch, 27 inch, 31 inch,
theres 60hz, 120hz, 144hz, and 200hz coming soon
then theres also GOOD PIXEL DISPLAYS and CHEAP CHINESE CRAP PIXELS
and also LED lit/ no LED
GET A FUCKING JOB IF YOU WANT A PREMIUM MONITOR
980ti or 1070

wHY? is it also true for "newer" cpu's, like 4690k?
>>340383291
>what is real-world performance
It's been proven over and over again that i7 skylake gives you more frames than its predecessor.
>>340384785
>asus monitor
you paid 600 dollars more than a BENQ XL 144hz monitor for a fancy box and racing stripes.
is a gtx 950 2gb good enough if I only play weeb games?
>>340415013
of course 1070
>>340415195
the 1070 is one of the worst price/performance gpus ever released
>>340413930
Had the same card
"Upgraded" to a 980 and it runs cooler, runs more silent but otherwise pretty similar performance wise
