Well they did it, the mad man Todd has planned for E3 is a remastered version of skyrim. Multiple sources confirm it, you need only look yourself. Todd's wallet is ready for your welfare checks, /v/, are you prepared to dish out another $60 for this thing?
it's still just a rumor. if you trace it back to the source, it's pretty sketchy.

because at the time of it's release, most people played it on decade old hardware. have you seen how poorly the ps3 ran skyrim? it was like 600p, 25fps max, huge load times, and weird glitches everywhere. so there's that.
as well as mods. bethesda's invested heavily in the idea of bringing PC mods to console players. they want to do to skyrim what they're attempting with fallout 4.
lastly, the length doesn't determine much. there have been cases like The Last of Us where it's released on PS3 and then 11 months later it's "REMASTERED" on PS4 and people still bought it by the millions.

If they are doing a remaster then I hope they make some changes to the game itself. I shouldn't need to join the mage's guild to get one of the stones for the Thieves guild crown. You also had to join the Mage's guild to get a piece of an amulet. It was a quest you could just stumble across too. The game really wanted you to be a master of all things and a leader of all the factions.
Still won't fix the combat. In the meantime, I'll be enjoying Witcher thank you.

Fallout 4 has better animation and melee combat but that's it.

Maybe they'll include class and race unique starts with the ability to opt out of the main quest and roleplay as anything you'd like?

Half the fun of modding Skyrim for me was to see how far I could push the graphics while still keeping the game playable. It can look pretty nice but the game is old. I hope the remaster has DX11 soft shadows and PBR. And better distant LODs most of all. Skyrim has the shittiest distant LODs of any game I have ever played, nothing you can do to stop things materializing in front of your face.

There is a rumor from a semi-reliable 'insider source' that Bethesda is planning to announce a remake/remaster of one of their earlier games.
Which game was never specified by this source.
Then a second, considerably less reliable source has tacked on 'oh and by the way it's Skyrim' afterwards.
Long story short, Bethesda MIGHT be remaking one of their games. The original source of the believable part of the rumor referred to it as one of their 'old' games. What that person considers old is unknown.
I don't get why people insist on making threads about this in the most shitposter-ish way possible.
It's actually an interesting rumor to contemplate if you stick to the info given by the more reliable source. I mean think about it, which old Bethesda game would you like to see with upgraded graphics?

They're not going to release a game when the old version can still be modded to look 10x better then the current, and modders aren't going to care because no one's going to start making 5 year old mods compatible with newer versions. There's a retexture for literally every single asset in the game at this point, most meshes have been completely redone too, I'd like to see Bethesdas attempt to compete with that though, it would be hilarious if nothing else.

It was actually a really fun game if you pretend that fast travel isn't an option. Riding around Skyrim on horseback, fighting bandits from horseback, with the relaxing OST and actually reasonably pretty nature is pretty nice. Fast travel pretty much ruins Bethesda games, but casuals can't live without it.
Like Fallout 4 has these really fucking cool Vertibird signal grenades you can toss to call a vertibird from the Prydwin that will fly you anywhere on the map in real time. This is actually pretty fucking dank, yet it's completely unnecessary due to fast travel. Sure it's useful in Survival mode, but the disease system is so broken that Survival mode isn't worth playing.
Skyrim even has the horse drawn carriage system that lets you pay for fast travel like in Morrowind, yet they still have that piece of shit mechanic in the game. I hate it.
How is such shit taste possible? I would rather believe that people were paid or had some kind of agenda to hold a stance like this, but the reality is standards really are this fucking low, and this is what they want.

Make it possible to play xbox 360 skyrim on xbox one, and offer people who have a hard copy of the 360 version an hd remaster for a small fee, instead of forcing them to buy the whole game all over again.
Becaise they will allready own the game. And the hd remaster is just a reskin anyway, probably not going to re-model anything. I expect that like most other hd remakes (other than the halo remakes) it will just be the same game with a fresh dash of prettier paint.

This isn't Law & Order. You can't simply hit the "zoom and enhance" key in photoshop to improve texture resolution. They would have to either manually retexture everything in the game or access a database of higher resolution textures that they chose not to use in the initial release (which may or may not exist).

Are you referring to godrays? Improving skyrim's dated lighting system would be a welcome addition to the game that modders simply cannot implement.

ENB's post-processing shading and filtering is ridiculously taxing on your system in exchange for the results it produces. Hard coded changes to the lighting systems (and ideally an upgrade to their newer reflective maps tech and maybe an update to their anti-aliasing package) would be a very valuable upgrade to the game's visuals. Frankly, the resolutions for a lot of skyrim's assets are acceptable as they are currently. The lighting and shadows are what truly limited it to 2007-tier visual quality.

Have half the game world be Black Marsh and half the game world be somewhere else (so set it on the border of the marshland). Then give your character (and only your character) some kind of magical "immune to marsh death" ability or something so you can survive
That way you can have a Black Marsh game without destroying either lore or player freedom.
