I have the same emulator as OP and it worked out fine on my Defy XT556 and still does on my Moto E. You can't expect to do shit like DK or Supersonic Warriors with it, but Fire Emblem, Pokémon, and shit like that work perfectly

Using one of those gamepads is horribly clumsy if you're on the train. I bought one, and while it's very comfortable at home, I busted out my old psp for use on the train.

I bought that remake of seiken densetsu 1. It's pretty good. They added extra buttons to put magic spells/items in, or switch between weapons (altough no combos).
It also has some basic controller support, but my circle button keeps exiting the game.

I've managed to play a couple TRPGs like bahamut lagoon (not very good) and warsong, but I can't think of many games for which the touchscreen wouldn't be a big hinderance.

Yggdra Union is an amazing game, though the PSP better is generally even better.
Also, YMMV on it actually being amazing. Many people dislike it for valid reasons.
