Has anyone here who didn't grow up with Spongebob gone and watched the old seasons these days? What did you think? I fucking love the show but I don't know how much of that is from nostalgia

I still rewatch the first 3 seasons frequently. I don't think comedy can be affected from nostalgia, I watch stuff, comedy in particular, that I watched back when I was 13 and I can't for the life of me what I thought was funny.
But Spongebob, I don't know. It had some great writers, that's all there is to it I guess.

The Chinese dub is really bad

If it's too hard to put it in Chinese, they'll just leave it out. Even the yeehaw in the episode where Spongebob meets plankton and rides his hat like a horse is removed.

Theme song is still in English and insert songs are either left in English (the ripped pants song) or left as karaoke tracks (Doing the sponge)
>localized names barely make any sense (Patrick's name at least retains Star and starts with a P, and Sandy is just the Chinese pronunciation of that name, but Spongebob's name translates to Sponge baby, Plankton is Paper Boss, and the Krusty Krab is Fort King Crab)
Of course, I've only seen the first season in Chinese, and that was to review my Mandarin since I'm not a native speaker, so what do I know?
