Nothing wrong with a character with high skill ceiling and high reward. Especially considering he often has to place himself in dangerous positions to pull it off. While Rein can't fight a sniper on his own, he's one of the best characters for shutting down a sniper. They can't shoot through your shield, and it takes a while to break the shield with sniper fire. If everyone stays behind your shield and pushes in, it forces the sniper to have to get reckless and move further in to find an angle to counter you.
Of course, if someone else on their team moves in and takes your shield out, you're back at square one.

You can't play widowmaker at close range against a player that's any good. It's not like CS:GO or CoD where you can run up to someone and quick scope them for a quick easy kill. You got a gun that takes a long time to charge, and if you actually manage to charge it up and get a shot off, you could miss and then die. Even if you get a headshot with that shot, it won't even matter on a reinhardt or roadhog, who take a few headshots to take down.
Compare this to all the characters who effortlessly can kill someone at short range. You got mcrees, who can press e then kill you instantaneously. You got roadhog, who can kill you in 1 shot and has huge reach with his hook. Reaper will kill you in 1 or 2 shots. Pharah will kill you in 1 or 2 shot from the air, where you won't even see her before you die.
Close range widowmaker only works on shit players. Raise your MMR and you won't have success as widow at close range.

Finally starting to understand the pain TF2 players have been going through for years. There is no reason to have more than one sniper on offense. Two snipers on defense is fine if they are good, which 95% of the cases they are not. Same thing with spies unless the rest of your team is shit and there is a huge sentry nest that needs taking out.

Harmony orbs heal 30HP/S to allies and you can have one up at a time, Discord makes your enemies take 50% more damage when you use it on them.
Both of them wear off after you lose LoS for 3+ seconds so you need to try and maintain LoS to your targets be it enemy or ally.
You can throw either of them out while you're mid left-click spamming, if you get a headshot on a target with Discord on them I think it does like 125 damage which is fucking insane, Zenyatta also shreds tanks like nobody else.

This is the most frustrating part honestly, I can't do anything when my teammates pick stupid shit and walk in 1 by 1 feeding the enemy the entire game. Had a guy yesterday play Symmetra and never put his tele down, he refused to switch off it even when we were defending the final point on the map, prior to that I had a very special D.va player on offense against double Zarya, hee would fly in solo, stand in the middle of the enemy while firing at Zarya shields, die then repeat over and over.
They really need to fix MMR and matchmaking.

I get what you're saying, but novelty hats make some sense in TF2. A viking helmet, conquistador helmet, and so on are something Soldier would probably wear if he found one in passing at a costume shop or museum. Particle effects are rare enough that they don't really ruin the art style unless you're in a server full of UGC guys.
If I had to guess what began to fuck the art style, I'd say it was when Valve was constantly pumping out promo cosmetics for preorders. As much as I like the DE:HR items, that was probably the tipping point.

Zenyatta brings a lot more to the table though, yeah his heals aren't as strong (around 60% as strong as Mercy's I'd say, but Discord is vastly superior to Mercy's damage boost.
Unlike Mercy's damage boost which only effects the one person she's using it on, and she has to be in range of that person to use it AND can't heal at the same time, I can chuck out a Discord, continue to heal, and every single person on my team does 50% more damage to the enemy with Discord on them.
Literally the only reason Mercy and Lucio are picked so much more than Zen is that Widow hard counters him so hard he literally can't play a match with a good one in it.
When Zen gets 200HP (oh, it will happen) and Widow gets nerfed, he'll be picked a lot more. Problem is he's requires a lot more effort to use than Mercy and Lucio, which are designed for retards.

Zen still isn't better than Lucio, even if he had 300 health he still wouldn't have the strength of Lucio. He just doesn't provide enough healing to keep up with things and neither of them can keep up with the Revive of Mercy for the defensive side of maps. On Koth Lucio is and will always be king and on the offensive side of maps Lucio still has a better pushing toolset.

He is very good, he's just hard to play so shitters think he's inherently bad since you get get easier results with both Mercy and Lucio.
The problem is he shouldn't be seen as a dedicated healer, he's more of a battle medic with medium heals and insane damage. You should be playing him like a long/mid range backline offensive character. What he lacks in straight up heals, he more than makes up for in damage and team damage with Discord.

And that's the issue, if you pick Zen you are almost forced into picking another support to go with him and it really limits what you can do with your team comp. In every non-koth map and mode Mercy outright beats him in every category, there is no situation in which a team would prefer a Zen over Mercy. On defense the revive is crucial and on offense there is no reason to pick him over Lucio, much less Mercy.
Yeah he needs a buff and not just his health, at this point you either have to increase his healing or his damage so he can prove worthy of his slot and fulfill one role properly instead of being a glass canon shield spammer. As stated the only time Zen was ever good is when his orbs were permanent and Genji hadn't been nerfed yet, if you think Widow/McCree/Tracer are bad now then be glad you didn't have to experience games against double Zen double Genji all day long, that was pure hell.

Mercy can't put anywhere near the amount of pressure Zenyatta can on an enemy team outside of her ult.
His healing isn't that far behind her, I still end up with ~6k average healing and beat a shit load of Mercy's simply on the basis that I can shut them down so easily with Discord. He shits out damage higher in a lot of cases than even assassins, I average ~7 -8k damage and usually end up with silver/gold unless there's a Junkrat or Pharah on my team.
Discord giving your entire team a damage boost against priority targets WHILE you can heal at the same time it's up is far, FAR stronger than Mercy having to drop her healing altogether to give one ally a damage boost.
Not to mention Zen doesn't even have to be in immediate danger range to throw out heal orbs like Mercy, and his ult can block wombo combos like Zarya into Reaper/Pharah ults, which can be much more useful than Mercy's ult.
All the complaints I ever see about Zenyatta are simply from players who are bad at him and haven't taken the time to actually learn him. He has far more outplay potential than either Mercy or Lucio, and isn't a one trick pony. He's actually useful both as a healer and as a offensive character. There's a reason he's chosen more often at higher MMR's.
