It is NOTHING like pointing a Wii Remote at the screen. Your on-screen pointer rarely shows where you're actually aiming and you'll miss your shots many times unless you look through the gamepad. Once you start looking through the gamepad you'll run into obstacles constantly (not that they'll kill you, the game is easy as hell). On top of this you have to wrestle with the control scheme of barrel rolling, sharp turns, boosting, and braking all mapped to the right stick.
The controls are a fucking trainwreck, worse than Kid Icarus Uprising. And that game that is awesome despite its controls.

I enjoyed it. It's a nice, short little game. The problem is that I haven't really bothered to go back to it since beating it.
The only thing I didn't really like about it is how much of a retread of SF64 it was, and usually worse in a lot of aspects.

The game has some fun missions but holy shit are they buried in this game.
It would have been better to show off the fun stuff on a player's first run.
Instead, going the "basic" route in this game is tedious hell. Worst part is, you can't even attempt most of the side-routes until you've beaten all the boring shit first.
Music was good, art was good. A little bit too much all-range mode for my taste but the linear stages later on were pretty great.
No secret ending, story is literally Starfox 64 told wrong and repeating lines of dialogue incorrectly like the voice actors never even heard the source material before.
But I will admit, the part where you play as Peppy made me smile.
Final verdict 65/100 good for a rental, otherwise major missed opportunity. I can't believe Platinum "helped" on this one.

The controls are fine, and while it's forced at times, the game design usually complements it. If you don't like the controls that's one thing, but the game does a decent job of taking advantage of them. The problem is how uninspired the game is. We've all essentially played it before years ago, and probably had a better, more wholesome experience with it.
Other M is so streamlined that it literally plays the game for you, and everything else they put in (over-the-shoulder "tense" sections, pixel hunting, the missiles" serves no other purpose but to bog the game down and tell the shitty narrative. People who only play western RPGs want a rail shooter to be more than a few hours long. Other people who also only play western RPGs expect a rail shooter to have a focus on exploration and story. Pretty much casuals who only play games with RPG elements don't like rail shooters. It just proves that even a good rail shooter can't sell for full price anymore since casuals expect 50 hour story campaigns that all play with the same control scheme.
