Still the best MGS game
>>
Wolfenstein 3D.
>>
>>340282953
That's the thing though. I can still go back to Mega Man X, Super Mario World, and Castlevania SoTN while having fun.

But this made me wonder what people saw about this game back in the day.
>>
>>340283251
I really hope that you're just baiting. You know what those 3 games all have in common you mentioned? They're all 2D and by that point 2D game making was entirely mastered. 3D was an entirely new frontier for games. MGS is still a really fun game and the only thing you could hold against it is graphics, but graphics are the least important part of a game.
>>
>>340283251
At the time, mgs1 was the first good attempt anyone had made at doing a intricate 3d story and gameplay in a full 3d environment that didn't rely on the crutch of pre rendered backgrounds (see: parasite eve, Dino hunt, re1-3, ff7-9 etc). It may be clunky, but it was cool to see a game like it at the time.
>>
>>340283437
You're right I did mention 2D games only, but I should have mentioned Spyro 2, Bomberman 64, and SM64 are still good games.Mainly due to the fact that they have fun gameplay which I did mention as problems for MGS.
>>

This.

I don't get this logic, the game had shitty control 18 year ago just has it has it now, we liked it for koji shinkawa artwork, the kickass music, the B movie silliness and that amazing 4th Wall break that still remain one of the best 4th Wall break ever

You know, things MGSV don't have

Early 3D game dipshit. There was no second analog stick as standard until PS2-gen. And even then it took them a couple of years to figure out that it should be used as a camera button.

Take MGS, add a camera button, and first person shooting and it controls fine.
>>
>>340284143
Well it is since it's considered a classic and you can't talk shit about. Kind of like American Beauty.

I did list reason why I thought it was bad though.

>>340283834
I really wouldn't call the controls shitty, they just take some getting used to. It's one of those cases that i'd say is comparable to Resident Evil, if it didn't have those tanky controls it'd fuck up the entire flow of the game and it'd just be an entirely different game.

>>340283805
Well i'd say those games have a handful of problems themselves, things like camera. Yeah two out of three of those games are excellent and hold up well, not a fan of Bomberman 64, but you're comparing top tier platformers here to a stealth game. There are plenty of platformers on PS1 that hold up like shit, see bubsy and croc.

>>340284058
Would agree if MGS2 didn't have so many sections that I just dread doing. Core gameplay is better in MGS2, but I think as a whole MGS holds up better.

honestly vagrant story doesn't have a problem of aging like shit, more along the lines of people not having figured out how to get the maximum out of controllers back then. it has no excuse of "no second analog stick", devs simply weren't using it like they do today and vagrant story is one of those games that would've REALLY benefited from better inventor system and outfit shortcuts or something. great game otherwise.

Here's one. It's just too simple and a lot of the combat just gets diluted into mashing attack unless you fight some boss that has a gimmick. Story is alright though.
>>
>>340284610
>>340284804

As Standard. Learn to read nigger. The Dual-shock was optional, and as such almost no games made use of it.

>>340284734
>>340284638

It still needs camera control, which is the main issue. And then it needs to be rebalanced around better aiming. Twin Snakes is a broken rush job of a remake by hacks.
>>
>>340283962
It's alright. Really enjoyed the 4th one though.

God Policenauts sucks! It's so bad. It's like a really bad Visual Novel. And I don't know, seriously, VN are like the easiest thing in the world to design. So when you design a bad one, that is remarkable.

Like the entire story of Policenaughts is not only a pixel hunt, but you basically have to try everything, and then try everything multiple times. So if you don't know this, like if you want to know about some photograph, you ask about the photograph, and she tells you something, and then you have to ask the same topic again. So that photograph entry can occur 3 or 4 times. And then you have to start from the beginning and try them all again because the third time might have opened something new up. And you have to exhaust every single option. ALL OF THEM. Before the game will let you move on. That is HORRIBLE.

No, it's not like an oldschool adventure game. Because in an osa you don't have to look at and inspect everything on the screen multiple times. You're just sitting there, desperately wanting to move on with the plot, and then you're stuck trying to inspect every little thing over and over again, and asking people the same questions over and over again. Ah it's bad. And when it finally gets exciting, it gets exciting for 20 seconds then you're right back at it.

Is the plot interesting? Not really. Yeah, not really. You know what the story is? It is 5% Blade Runner, 95% Lethal Weapon. It is literally Lethal Weapon. It's straight up Riggs and Murtaugh. It's not even subtle. He rips off whole scenes. It's amazing. And PN is not some isolated incident ALL his games are like this. How is this guy considered a godo writer/director?

Best boss fights in the series
1:Solidus
2:Liquid
3:Fatman/Raven

The end and the boss are overrated boss fights
Psycho mantis is a shit boss fight but cool character same with the boss.

2: The end
3: volgin

the fear is the worst, kojima could have done some real cool shit with him but insted he just jumps on the 3 same trees
>>

Solidus num 1,Nice

see,i found the fear quite fun
my fight with the end went weird tho,he ended up running into plain sight so i just mowed him down with a machine gun.

the boss was disappointing,i wanted it to be a CQC focused boss fight like liquid ,.i ended up just shooting her with a pistol from far range, turned it into another ocelot type fight.

Twilight Zone is 59' onwards, so basically 60's. It's black/white so people assume it's older than it is. It's pretty good, if a bit hokey.

My friend had me play this game a few years ago when he heard I never played a MGS in my life

I loved the shit out of 3, but I wouldn't play 4 until I beat all of them and I wanted to play 1 before 2

I was a bit frustrated with the controls, but it was still solid outside of turning while prone.

When I got to the staircase, I just gave up. I was stuck for days. I looked up a LP ending and told him I thought the ending where Meryl dies was really good.

I decided to beat it three months ago, but it's still an archaic meme relic that belongs in a museum.
>>
>>340293598
Yeah also wasnt a fan of the isometric view to first person view. Just seemed pretty clunky.
>>
>>340293598
>I decided to beat it three months ago, but it's still an archaic meme relic that belongs in a museum.

They are going to say that about every single game today as well.

Full VR with direct mind connections will make these games look absurd.

>So you're telling me they sat in front of displays and used little joypads?

Don't get me wrong I agree with you it's just weird tt me that you singled out ffiv as if they don't almost all have teh same problems.
>>
>>340282626
The only thing this game needs gor a remaster is a locked framerate at 60 (or even 30tbh), proper zbuffer, and texture perspective correction.

Voice acting was actually great, and I played TS first. In MGS1, David Hayter isnt forcing the voice and actually sounds somewhat like a real person. TS he overdid the voice like in the later games

This is actually happening in PS1 emulators now. No z-buffer but we have texture correction now.
>>
>>340294395
>In MGS1, David Hayter isnt forcing the voice and actually sounds somewhat like a real person. TS he overdid the voice like in the later games

One of the best coincidences ever. See, he had a cold during the recording of MGS. It resulted in his Snake voice being very perfect and natural. Later games he has to force it more and more.
>>
>>340294276
Yeah should have mentioned the whole series up to 9 but 4 was what came straight to mind.
>>
>>340294583
Yeah but you cant fix all the issues entirely.

Im also not a fan of hardware slowdown in Emulation of older 3d consoles. I want accuracy, but I also want the option to fix that shit.

I unironically think Emulated N64 OOT looks great, and it runs at 20 fps constant. It works because the input was polled at 60hz.
>>
>>340295073
>Im also not a fan of hardware slowdown in Emulation of older 3d consoles. I want accuracy, but I also want the option to fix that shit.

Also working on that. Mednafen-libretro has a bottleneck removal option, for modest CPU increase and slowdown. PGXP has the option for CPU overclocking, for big fps boosts, but also some problems.

60fps hacks could be made, but no one has bothered.
