There's no way HL3 won't be shit. While the first games had cool gimmicks to set them apart like physics puzzles and weird guns, they were never the central focus of the game. It's always been about the story, which was told directly through gameplay. And it was all crafted beautifully by Marc Laidlaw who is no longer at Valve.
He's already gone on record saying they build the story in unison with the gameplay, so it's not like he wrote them a script and left it behind when he left Valve.
Coupled with the "leaks" suggesting HL3 is a non-linear open world (references to questlines in game files etc..) then you're left with a shell of a game with nothing that made Halflife Halflife.
As the years are lost like teardrops in the rain, I find myself caring less and less about a new Halflife game. Valves apparent disregard for the interest of the people who made them who they are today has left a bad taste in our mouths.
Only thing I sitll care about is the F-stop mechanic theyve been sitting on all these years. If it's as fun and intuitive as everyone says then it will no doubt make for a fun game. I just wish they weren't holding it hostage along with HL3.

i really like the setting. i like the mysterious, dystopian thing and few games get it right the setting made me want to know more. i want 3 for the same reason i wanted an end to lost, and i'll be dissapointed for the same reason.

they started to surface 5 years ago and they were talked about in tech news back then, especially when google bought one. They are still extremely limited when it comes to what tasks it can do, they can count really fast, that is about it.

No him but in a way they were. John Carmack's specialty was engines and he came out with one that had lighting. Valve just so happen to have an engine with physics instead and as it turns out people were more interested in physics.
