When you're talking to the Majordomo it plays the Hearts of Stone theme, which is the little rhyme you hear from those kids. Also the spoons, and that the curse was started when a beggar broke one just like O'Dimm.
I liked hearts of stone better, the setting in blood and wine was nice but the story and characters were waaaaay better in hearts of stone, allthough bro'ing out with regis was pretty great.

There's no mention of O'Dimm the entire quest, and the music is pretty silent when it happens. Just completed it and it took me by fucking surprise. It's the little things.

Yeah he is a dick and play arround with peoples lifes often, but he only does contracts with people that agrees with them, and punishes people that he feels are rude or deserving off it.
That professor that went blind from reading about him would probably have died anyway since eldritch knowledge isnt something you joke about. Gaunter giving him a safety circle was almost a favour.
The guy is simple so above regular humans that our morals really dont apply to him, consider how higher Vampires have a hard time understanding humans, Gaunter is all that and more. He is simply beyond our understanding

He isn't evil at all. He teaches lessons to those who make selfish wishes or behave like assholes, but otherwise is a pretty swell chap. Hell, he even spares Geralt from professor's fate by warning him in advance.
