>>340251963
That looks so dumb.
Another trailer, another assload of anachronistic shit because DICE refuses to spend 30 minutes actually researching WWI.
In this teaser alone:
-The Black Soldier (American/British, who knows at this point) is wearing a WWII British Mk IV Respirator. On top of that, it's not hooked up to anything. There's no hose, and no canister, it's useless.
-Both the American/Brit, and the German firing the Bergmann MG15 are wearing a WWII German patch for the rank of Oberschütze. This patch didn't exist in WWI. So with this teaser, it's been shown that EVERY soldier, of EVERY NATIONALITY SHOWN SO FAR, is wearing the same future patch on their shoulder.
If patches are part of the Squad system, why is the default patch a WWII German patch?
-The black soldier, who I am assuming is supposed to be American, is wearing a British uniform. While America and Britain wore similar uniform, the American uniform had a standing collar, while the British had a more usual fold-over collar. The black guy has the British fold-over collar.
I could go on, like the WWII rifle shown in a previous image, and so on, but DICE's allergic aversion to researching anything is comical at this point.

I'm hoping for Galipoli, Brusilov offensive, Russian Revolution, and Flanders maps.
I actually carried a belt-fed machine gun around for a year in Afghanistan. And a dude coming at you with a trench club while you are looking at a 6-7 second reload isn't that fun to think about. That said, I don't think any machine guns from WW1 were just hip fired like OP's gif

If so, no, the Americans were never issued Lee Enfields.
They were however, issued M1917 Enfields (pictured), and M1903 Springfields, with the Enfield being America's main service rifle, going by the amount issued.
The M1917 was made by the British under contract from America, and is based on the Mauser action. It has nothing in common with the Lee Enfield, beyond name.
>>340254618
not him but ww1 was pretty colourful
Gallipoli was a two-fronted beach landing with Australians used as cannon-foddr, landing under gunfire, then trying to fortify the beach. The aim was to give the British and French forces time to organize themselves on the point, but it was a big cock-up and they all died or went home.
The Brusilov offensive was just pure chaos, a very mobile, large-scale assault by the Russians against the Austrians.
Russian Revolution was a myriad of different battlefields and different conditions.
Flanders is what you would think of when you say the words "trench foot"
>>340254618
not necessarily
Trench warfare was a mainstay, but battles were fought all over the continent.
you have to take weather, terrain, forces, and many other factors into it
Gallipoli is basically a smaller Normandy beach landing in the desert
Ypres, especially the third battle, is a swamp with constant rain that floods
Verdun is a hilly landsape
you have some Navel battles, like Jutland, too
technology and strategy also develop through the war as well.
>>340251963
I found battlefield 3 and 4 completely atrocious ever since they refused to listen to feedback in the bf3 beta and even shut down a community who was being vocal about their change of direction.

Also
>These six categories are shotguns, SMGs, LMGs, semi autos, sidearms and sniper rifles – pretty familiar stuff for most FPS players, despite the relatively unexplored setting. Each of these classes include multiple varieties of weapon, including some of the first successful assault rifles ever made.
>Weapons can be customised with up to three pre-set loadouts, rather than attachments. You’ll also be able to tweak zoom levels, reticles and more – and apply skins.

The people who are getting pissed off ITT are not "history fags". They are high school pocket-historians who don't fucking know what they're talking about.
When someone gets mad about hip-firing machine guns, just laugh at them. It's like a big flashing casino sign that says "I DONT ACTUALLY KNOW WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT".
Machine Guns could be and were hip-fired in world war 1. From the notes of Paddy Griffith's "Battle Tactics of the Western Front: The British Army's Art of Attack, 1916-18", pg. 248:
"the manual makes it clear that firing from the hip is highly inaccurate and unduly exposes the firer to the enemy, and should only be used in special circumstances."
>hurr inaggurat
Not impossible.
In fact, World War 1 infantry soldiers on all sides were trained in "marching fire" using machine guns. Americans trained with the lewis gun specifically, as did Australians who used it in that way at the Battle of Hamel. The Germans eventually did the same with the 48-pound MG08/15. It's not. The image you posted is a fucking lamp, with a terribly uneducated description claiming it's WWI.
The gas mask the lamp uses is ALSO a Mk IV British gas mask, which was extremely common during WWII, for both Civilian and Military use.
You will not be able to find a single photo or actual source claiming it's from WWI, because it's not.
You can however find many pictures of it in use in WWII.

If those "liberties" result in the game still playing like every fucking modern shooter then it's an issue. Even the fucking trailer is still that same orange and blue WUUUUUUUUUUB shit that the last three Battlefields have had.
Granted that I don't know a lot about WWI because the American school system is shit and this was one of the most glossed over topics because they wanted to get to the Great Depression as soon as they could, but it really seems like all the anachronisms are adding up and they're just so they don't alienate their idiot audience
>>340257774
SMG's existed late war, the Italians and Germans being the main two to use them.
LMG, as a term, did not exist. A distinction between heavy, light, or general purpose wasn't really around back in WWI, so any machine gun light enough to carry could be a "LMG".
Semi-auto's were rare things. The French had the most common semi-auto rifle of the war, the Fusil Automatique Modèle 1917, but being the most common of a rare weapon type isn't saying much.
Other semi-auto's existed, or were being prototyped, the Germans had one for aircraft/defense, but not infantry deployment for example.

They're in a position where anything they do to deviate from the "modern/near future" shooter would be well received, and yet the game is likely going to be the same shit with a new skin. This is the only thing I've seen so far that doesn't stand up to scrutiny.
There are accounts of middle eastern women fighting in World War 1, such as the Turkish women lone snipers killing ANZACs during the Gallipoli campaign - but they are uncorroborated and have nothing substantiating them. They are mostly anecdotal originating from rumor. Historians generally disregard these stories as it would have been severely against the cultural tradition of Turkey and the Bedouins alike. For the record, Aleks Grondal did say she was Bedouin.
There were, however, confirmed women fighting against the turkish genocide of the Armenians. DICE also had a chance to tell a real story about Gertrude Bell, CBE, spying for the British Empire, being an archaeologist of babylon, and hobnobbing with Winston Churchill, TE Lawrence, and various high-circle members of Iraq and the rest of the Levant.
tl;dr DICE is choosing to make a bullshit story, which is fine in my opinion, but I hope they have no illusions about some ass-kicking arab woman being real in world war 1.
>>340258064
This would be the most common and "finalized" type they issued during the war.
Early attempts range from cloth mouth rags that were tied around the mouth, and only worked when wet, or varying types of cloth "bags" with glass eye holes.
Gas masks saw rapid development in the war, and so getting military designation/names is a pain in the ass, sorry I can't provide one.

Hardly. Maps aren't designed with enough cover. if 1/6 of the enemy team has stingers, the attack helicopter cannot make a move. It can peak out of its spawn, take a few shots, and has to get to cover before two thousand missiles hit it, rendering it useless
Yes, I complain about that. It requires absolutely no skills whatsover to take out vehicles in BF3 and 4, yet you could counter them in previous titles, like in BF2, where you actually had to use a little bit of skill to use the ERYX or the SRAW. Fire and forget shit makes for really shitty gameplay. And before you go >muh vehicle whore, I mainly play infantry, and always have ever since I started playing battlefield 15 years ago.

Welcome to the Swedes version of WWI
The Swede did not fight n WWI nor in WWII, in fact the Swede has not fought a war since he early 1800's.
The Swede has no concept of the brutality and terror of WWI, especially so because it was the first war of its kind, some call WWI and WWII the same war with a long period of unsteady peace in between, whatever you call it, the Swede has no history to it.
The Swede is therefore not subtle about his approach to this Great War, the Swede- burdened by modern thinking and leftist schlock in his little Swedish mind instead twists and manipulates the facts of the war to suit that politically correct agenda of diversity and inclusionism wherever he can, yes shamelessly so even into a videogame about WWI, and all we can say to the Swede is, have you no shame?

I can sure as hell tell when someone goes too far in their little historical fantasy of WWI by throwing in diversity and modern ideas onto the war when they have no place being there.
Look to a Verdun for a game that does it right.
DICE is trying to bring over the modern BF3/4, COD Blops melee and intensity and mindset over to WWI and with a smattering of diversity to boot (when 95% of the participants in the Entente were white Europeans/Anglos) in order to appeal to the "new generation" or anyone who thinks WWI is boring because muh trench warfare and stalemates meme and it just comes off as incredibly insulting to the rest of us.

Trench warfare mode: INTENSE FAST PACED AND BLOODY CHARGE INTO THE OPOSSING TEAMS TRENCHES ACROSS NO MAN'S LAND
>its a trench, 100 meters of no mans land, and the other trench and cloistered into a box, no flanking routes, no other direction to attack but forward.
I wouldn't be surprised even, they mentioned their smallest maps yet, which for WWI probably means less space between and around ttenchrs to funnel gameplay artificially.
DICE seems to be all about being in control of YOUR experience lately, instead of letting the player have more control and more freedom, see the latest Battlefront for an example.

That accurate model would have really SLOWED down the ACTION PACKED PACE of the game, on account of it just EXISTING DURING THE TIME TOO MUCH.
Fuck off, I'm not complaining about gameplay shit, and a company as large as DICE should be called out for lazy bullshit.
Why do you get so upset that someone is pointing this stuff out? Why does that anger you, at all?
I'm not asking for accurate trench warfare simulator, where you spend a good time of the game sitting in a muddy trench, with your feed cold and hurting, and you pass the time with an intense QTE rat smashing mini-game followed by an intense mission of carving spent ammunition with images of your home.
I don't give a shit about hip-firing machine guns, it can be done, it happened, that's fine. I don't care if this game is full of doing sick 360 no scopes while jumping off a horse, and then landing on a different horse.

Only when they could get High Command to stop jerking their horses off and jerking each other off about their horses.
Germans felt that tanks needed to move quickly while being spread out amongst units combined with heavy guns to provide support.
French believed in the WWI ideal that a tank should be huge and heavy, move at a snails pace, and allow an entire platoon to walk slowly behind it in full cover over the enemy trench.
Meanwhile the British High Command saw tanks and tried to use them like cavalry.

Why do some people insist that some wars are like a fairy tale in GOOD vs EVIL?
How about a clash ideologies where one is less compatible with todays ideas?
There were atrocities and Im not trying to defend anyone, but you dont have to label everything as EVUL.
Not everything has to be simplified like you're explaining history to children. Especially US education does this so much, everything is grossly simplified and "fairy tail-ed"
We're all just going to suddenly up and forget the fact that this same exact studio was the one which gave us Battlefield 3, 4, and Battlefront?
Having a new setting doesn't make it suddenly good.
>>340272540
>Why do some people insist that some wars are like a fairy tale in GOOD vs EVIL?
Because it is what is in the public conscious. Plus Japan most certainly topped WWII in horrific war crimes.

honestly i think this is the only title that has a justified use of BRAND 1/ONE/JUAN/(empty)
WW1 is generally recognised for having a 1 in it, and it certainly predates BF1942, making it chronologically the first Battlefield game.
it's also more quickly capturing to the audiences than BF1912 or something similar, and since it's their alt-reality WW1 rather than the more historically-replicative BF1942, i could believe that the date 1912 isn't even of historical importance in the universe.

>It's a better sight in real life, because it aids sight acquisition faster, but in a game where lining up the sights is automatically done with a button press, it's no longer "better", it's just "different".
In games, aperture sights are worse than any kind of notch sights. Because of the reason you stated, the aperture sight in game provides zero advantage. But it creates a disadvantage in blocking line of sight when aiming. In the game your binocular vision can't help you see through the ring, so it just obscures the target.

>Machine Guns were literally designed more and more to be more portable and more viable in infantry assaults. Why don't you give me some sources to back up your claim that machine guns were static-only and that they were not used as part of advancing infantry tactics.
Walking fire was a disaster for any unit that attempted it.
It still doesn't make sense for a machine gunner to be walking toward charging British infantry.
Verdun did it right. You can use the Lewis or CSRG 1915 firing from the hip while walking but it is so inaccurate it's basically useless unless you are inside the trench and 10 feet from the enemy.

BAR was the only gun in WWI designed to fire while advancing and they quickly scrapped this idea because run&gun<stable firing position.
If using them like that did shit we wouldn't need advancement to assault rifles in WWII.
>>340289118
The Chauchat was a one-man weapon that could be fired on the move, though due to design problems it was recommended to be used only in short bursts or semi auto.
The Lewis Gun was designed as a two-man weapon but could still be used on the move - one man would drop to his knee, where the gunner would then use his shoulder to rest the gun upon for accurate fire - but a harness was also made that allowed a single soldier to carry it and fire from the hip. Wasn't particularly accurate and so wasn't very useful in the open, but in a trench it was bloody murder and could clear a section of Germans incredibly quickly.
