While yeah it was a beautiful atmosphere, everything else is garbage. The design for the environment including flora and fauna is great but when you mix that with the horrific voice acting, terrible RPG choices, simplistic glitches and technical failures, and overall uselessness of half the game, you get yourself one big steamer of a game.

I havent played a videogame this much since I was a kid. Fallout 4 is great, install Ultra Realistic mods, and play on survival. 1 headshot = Dead, both you and enemies.
Makes the whole game strategic, challenging and exciting. And if you die? Oh oh, you get to spawn all the way back at base, so you cant be le epin shooter guy. If you dont play it like this, and play bulletsponge fagginess, you are playing it wrong.

Unarmed melee fighter in NV is probably the most fun I've ever had in a Fallout game. Nothing is more badass than going up against hordes of gun wielding maniacs with nothing but your bare hands (or a power glove if you like punching people's heads clean off).
Be sure to learn all of the hand-to-hand techniques, some of them are totally fucking broken like the leg sweep one that can be used to stunlock most enemies.

Builds in Fallout 4 only matter in the early game. Infinite levels means that every high level character is exactly the same. The most effective early game build however is high luck with crits.
Some of these anons are right though. You should just uninstall and play literally any other Fallout game (Tactics, BoS and even Shelter included) and unless you're some kind of retarded child you'll enjoy yourself a lot more.

I thought this was a Fallout game during my first play through. So I went with my usual high intelligence build. Ended up just getting over leveled way too quickly and blew through the rest of it.
you gotta play with a Perk unleveler so you can go deep int in the beginning of the game or deep strength and ignore everything else.
they cap the ranks by level, forcing you to spec into something else until you're high enough level. this is where the unleveler comes in.

in FO4 you can be tasked to clear out a warehouse of synths; all synths remain non-hostile to you, allowing you to walk right in. attacking them doesn't make you an enemy of Institute (the way attacking a legionnaire makes you an enemy of the Legion, even if you have The Mark).
in NV, not only are there competing factions, warnings about playing two sides, etc-- even the player is considered a 'faction' with their own unique ending and questline where you can freely usurp whichever leaders you dislike. The player will even be treated as a member of the faction whose uniform they wear, which makes perfect sense.
like yeah, you can still be on the 'good side' of multiple factions at once in NV, but it requires actually paying attention to who you fuck with and what quests you take. And when you make an enemy of a faction they will attack you (or even hunt you in Legion's case)
additionally, obisidian managed all of those features in just over a year, on a fucking HORRIBLE spaghetti-code engine that they had no experience with, while Todd Howard spent several years bragging about how big and ambitious Fallout 4 was, and how "if it sucks it's because we tried too much"
only for it to release with less overall depth and features than even FO3, which at least managed to have karma even if it was stupidly lopsided (it was legit hard not to be Jesus Himself unless you did super evil shit like blowing up Megaton)

No. In fact, I think you'd be able to understand Fallout factions and story easier if you haven't played Fallout 3, assuming you've played Fallout 1 and 2.
Fallout 3 portrays a different BoS because of the distance between west and east BoS, it's only natural for the group to kinda diverge. So you'll get the wrong impression by Fallout 3's BoS. You'll also get the wrong impression of Fallout 3's Enclave (it shouldn't fucking exist).

Not at all. New Vegas does a pretty good job of explaining it's setting and factions for those who are really unfamiliar with the series. Some references to events and characters might fly over your head if you haven't played 1 and 2, but they aren't that big of a deal and are more there as fanservice to fans of the originals than anything else. I tried going full melee with the new survival mode, it's just not gonna happen. 1 shot there goes all your health. Enemies tend to rush you sometimes shooting you, and if you get mobbed by ghouls, good fucking luck. It's gets annoying after a while going back to your last bed save point. I had to mix in weapons after a while
