His Yun in USFIV was pretty good, in UMvC3 he's one of the stronger players having actually played alot against overseas players, and in Xrd he's still a beginner but at least not clueless unlike the vast majority of the FGC are when they start playing it.
If your requirement for "playing other fighting games" is getting top 8 at multiple games, then many top players in SF, GG, and other stuff wouldn't qualify for that.

This is why you're retarded. They're different experiences, and there's no reason why you can't do both. As much as you can play a game with a friend, you likely will never get to a point where you play like pros do on finals in a major (specially with that shitter "why bother watching others play?" mentality). Watching with friends is also more fun than watching alone, and is the next best thing after actually being part of the crowd with your friends. Why not play a game with your friends if you get together to watch evo finals? Because you didn't get together to do that you autistic retard, it's that simple.
