This has got to be bait. The first video games were programmed by complete nerds on mainframes, simply because they found it interesting to do so.

This is what makes it complex. Complex games do not need to be hard; they just need lots of varying features.

I don't think even DF is particularly hard (unless you make it). You can settle in a peaceful area, and slowly build your fortress without any problems. Yet, I would call DF "complex," because it obviously has a lot of features.
