I was born in 92, but I'm well aware digital key-chain pets were at the peak of popularity in the eighties.
After Digimon I remember not seeing many kids having digital pets, so I feel Digimon was sort of the last dying breath of the fad that was likely killed due to handhelds.
Though I guess Scannerz, PoX, and those stickmen cube things would be the true last attempt at those forms of toys. However they weren't really the same thing as a digital pet, you never took care of anything. Pox in of itself was an RPG.
