Samurai Rising, Granblue and especially 消滅都市 have storylines. Dialogue, lore building, all that stuff. There are also tons of side event. It's not all score making and you only cash grab is you want, its never needed. Or I should say, in the good ones it isn't needed.
In the ones I listed there aren't any controllers but you don't need them.
The the last game I played was GTA4 back when it came out.

I really enjoyed MGSV
Have no problems with MonHun staying a handheld exclusive series and think it all around works better on handhelds since I can just pick it up every now and then and play one quest when I don't feel like playing with friends for hours on end.
Call of Duty got better when it went full future (Infinite Warfare fucking blew it already though).
Think GTAV is an all around better game than IV and is up there with San Andreas and Vice City.
Don't enjoy turn based RPG's with only a few exceptions and even then I only play through them once.
I've straight up not touched some games due to how visually unappealing they look to me personally. No matter how good they might actually be.
I think that difficulty, losing, and dying in games is not fun. It does nothing but frustrate me and piss me off. I always play all games on the lowest difficulty setting.

I used virtual console's restore points to beat Zelda and Metroid.
It's not like I couldn't spend 5 minutes on each death grinding for hearts/energy and another 10 minutes carefully picking my way through the world to get back to where I was, but that's a pretty steep punishment for death, especially later in the game. I should probably try and go back and do it legit.
I didn't have this problem with Zelda 2 or Metroid 2.

Whenever I play Overwatch with my friends I try to undermine the team effort as much as possible so that my score/kills/fire/whatever is the highest.
I do things like not call out flankers, snipers, if I get killed by someone and see they have ult up I don't say anything. I always save myself rather than anyone else if given the opportunity. I use my ult for random deathmatch kills when it doesn't matter just to boost my eliminations if someone's taken the gold from me. If switching to X hero would win us the game, but diminish my score, I won't switch. etc. etc.
I do all of that because I have extremely low self-esteem and making it seem like I outperformed my friends makes them compliment me.

So I do 15-18 credit hours of school + 10 hours of commute + 15 hours of work every week for the last three years.
Every time I come home, I make sure my siblings do their homework, and then do mine, and usually go to bed, or browse 4chan.
Every time I want to pick up a game, I lose interest fast because I feel overwhelmed emotionally by everything else I dedicate my time to. Instead, I choose to read books, and program small things to learn. I'm attempting to create a team for a small simple video game I want to make. Already wrote out a plot and all that.

Whenever I play any multiplayer game with any of my friends everything I do is an attempt to impress them. I quantify my enjoyment of such playthroughs by how much the game allowed me to impress my friends.
For example, when we played modded minecraft a while back, I tried my best to grind out cool shit and build a cool base to impress my friends, while keeping all of my tech to myself and not telling anyone about anything useful I'd found (such as the watering can (the infinite bonemeal game-trivializer item)) to make sure they lagged behind me, so that they'd be awestruck when they saw how cool my stuff was.
I recognize this as a problem but I don't know what to do about it. I've been like this as far as I can remember. It's probably some kind of mental disorder combined with low self-esteem.

Same. I did one playthrough with lots of covenant stuff/pvp/pve summons and I've shelved it. DS1 and even 2 had me gunning for NG+ but I don't feel that urge here.
Maybe I'm burnt out. I just wish they didn't cut some of the more interesting weapon types/joke stuff and arenas from DS2. It feels like every step forward From does they stumble a bit backward.
I really like Skyward sword and I think its controls are a strong point

I never beat Dragon's Dogma because I killed the dragon and figured the hole thing was just random encounter end-game. Save got deleted and now I can't bring myself to play through to that point again.
I use console commands in Stellaris to give me more influence. I don't understand how upgrading a planet's capital or constructing a power grid requires influence

I agree wholeheartedly (currently playing through it again, just to prove it), but I feel like it would have been better received if it didn't have the Tales of Symphonia name attached to it.
On that note, after playing Zestiria for a few hours, I do hate the changes that they're making regarding the battle system. Perhaps I'm old-fashioned (before Zestiria, the newest Tales game I played was Vesperia, and the battle system in that was pretty great), and I can't really explain it otherwise, but I hate how the battle system works in that compared to the older games.
