Blame normies for this never being mentioned again. At the time, all they wanted was more shrek, anything pixar could pump out and honestly anything 3d animated. It took disney almost 10 years to get back into hand drawn (which was the princess and the frog, which I find to be a top tier movie simply because I love Keith David and I found the shadow man to be one of their better villains.

It made over 100m over its budget, so it made a decent profit (enough to reignite disneys green light button) but not renaissance numbers, but I honestly dont think they where expecting those numbers.
Funny enough, if tangled failed, it would have crippled fucking disneys non pixar 3d studios for YEARS. frozen would have been canned. And at the budget tangled was at (the single most expensive animated budget ever simply because they made 3 fucking movies in 3 fucking different styles before settling on the final version) 260 million, it wasnt really expected to turn any profit. They where ready to write the entire thing off.

Atlantis MADE 2x the budget of Iron giant.
