Future Tone is a port of the arcade game for PS4.
Its' JP only right now, which for a rhythm game isn't a big deal, and it contains 220 songs or so.
X is a new game for PS4/vita releasing in the west in august. And it's got about 30 songs.

It's just the anticipation of the note coming that makes it harder. One solution is using the item that makes the notes faster, but on some songs it makes it too fast

I concede the special segments thing but coming from other rhythm games, Diva's note placement looks like a fucking awful random mess most of the time. The track thing makes it feel much more tidy, and it allows some neat stuff:

Or for example in Kokoro, when Rin's eyes are robotic the track is full of acute angles, and when they turn normal it becomes smooth curves, I love subtle stuff like that.
Diva games also have that "interaction" sometimes with the note placement but it's much less common and much more limited.

My big problem with the track is that notes appear too close to your cursor
The track speeds up and slows down (rather than just placing notes appropriately), fucking with when you expect a note
It constantly veers into the corners and sides of the screen which makes it even hard to see what's coming up
Diva may not have those neat little tricks that the track does like Cendrillon, but I appreciate being able to actually see everything so much more.

I also had the camera problem, yes, but I think that's more related to the 3DS' small ass screen rather than the track mechanic by itself. It also seemed to me that that was sometimes done on purpose to accent the song, World is Mine comes to mind.

Miku games are gaining popularity in the west it seems. No PSP games got localizations, PDf got digital only for vita in, F2nd got full release with eng subs, now the same is happening for PDX. Future Tone may be a little outside the main series so you may be right, just a thought.
Also, I don't see how 220 songs cannot fit onto a single Blue-Ray disc. If not, divide them onto two discs. Remember JRPGs on the original PlayStation? FF8 was on four discs.

Future tone is JPN and digital only. It is a port of the arcade version of the game and uses different graphic models and I am assuming, slightly different mechanics.
One of the interesting parts of FT is the huge list of 220 songs it supports (in two packages.)
I am finally considering buying a PS4, not totally sold yet, but very interested.
PDX is more of the same (I am fine with that though) but look up FT for more detailed info.
