I currently live in upper florida, where most arcade cabinets are grossly overpriced on craigslist or just broken. (For example, a $1500 Ms. Pacman cabinet.)

Thank you so much for posting this. I remember seeing this cabinet in a laser tag place when I was younger, but I could never remember what it was called. Whenever I asked people online about it, they always said it was House of the Dead.

And here's where we learn you have no fucking clue what we're talking about and that we can safely ignore your posts, because most high level players play on random.
If you need to memorize anything, your playstyle is shit.

>Artificial difficulty literally means trial and error

"Artificial difficulty" is when they throw things at you that are meant to kill you. Not "stuff that you are meant to overcome", but actually literally shit that serves no purpose other than to fuck over the player.

Battletoads is FILLED with artificial difficulty. Rhythm games aren't "artificial difficulty" at all.

And you have shit taste for not liking House of the Dead. Those are fucking masterpieces.

Oh god no. Despite being about as heavy as the Guitar Freaks guitars, these things broke so damn easily. Every one I tried to play (at least 3 in different locations over the years) had buttons that didn't work, strum bars that could only strum up, and star power activation that went off at random.

Its only saving grace was that its visuals and tracklist were based on Guitar Hero 3, the best one. Everything else was awful. Some "bonus" songs cost as much as 3 dollars for a single play.

I'm in Pennsylvania. The one I grew up with closed down but there's still some around. Also always went to the Jersey Boardwalk as a kid and they had a lot of arcades that might still be around.

If you're in Maryland try Adventure Park USA

How far into the Northeast are you? There's a Round 1 in Taunton MA.

Simply the best.
>>

They still mallrat around and like go to ice skating rinks and bowling alleys.

Just no more video games.

>>340115987
There are lots of boardwalks, and if you mean still in seaside shit like Lucky Leo's and the others on the strip only had shitty fuckign skeeball and crane games, and now they have terrible modern arcade cabinets that are horrendous.
>>
>>340108987
I was going to post it; one of my favorites.

>>340105981
Played this recently and the joystick wasn't calibrated super well

>>340116164
I always went to the big one. There's like a small amusement park on it with a roller coaster. I think maybe it was near the south beach arcade? Idk
>>
>>340115789
I grew up in Ocean County.
Used to go to Time Out arcade in Freehold Raceway Mall every Friday.
They had half the games posted in this thread at one time or another.
Whoever was running that shit knew their fucking vidya.

Arcade just disappeared one day. Never came back. It's a Chick Fil A now.

Zapp Comics was also really fucking legit. Tons of overpriced import weeb shit like Gundam Models and all that.
RIP my childhood

It doesn't exist anymore. Hurricane Sandy toppled the pier and all the cabinets are in the ocean.

I actually went a year later to see what was still around and got on the verge of tears when I released it was gone forever.

>>340116364
Yeah idk why in this area it was hard to have arcades be profitable. All these other posters from like stupid midwest and cali shit all still have arcades.
>>
>>340116598
Ah shit. I forgot that Hurricane happened. I haven't been to NJ in a long time. Well if you're ever in York/Hanover PA check out timeline arcade

another one from momocon was the bishi bashi, probably the most fun you could have with 3 people on an arcade machine. Pretty much wario ware on a cabinet.

Crazy Taxi is easily my favourite.
Simple to pick up and have fun with but the level of depth in terms of techniques and how you approach your route makes it infinitely replayable.
Between Crazy Taxi and Yu Suzuki's output, Sega are the kings of the arcade for me. SNK come close but Sega are my favourite.

On a side-note, Sega's 3D Classics are fantastic.
They are practically the definitive versions (not being able to play After Burner II's new content with a flight stick kills me) and the developer interviews with M2 about the making of the ports are really informative.

I need help, /v/. There was an arcade shooter where you stood on a platform that read which direction you leaned, so you could attack or hide whenever you want with your body. It was hard as shit because the enemies were accurate.

What was it called? You played a cop and went with a bunch of other cops into a night club and got into a firefight against some gangsters, if that even remotely helps.

Good arcade game. It's a lot fairer than other gun games. Premise is fighting mutant wildlife and watching Indians getting eaten. But the cutscenes have aged horribly.

THIS. Must have been one of the earliest games with QTEs but they actually got it right. I remember if you get to the end, the game has both players fight each other for who gets to be the number one hero. Which would be whoever ran out of quarters last. Unless that was only in the home version.
