Is stardew valley worth getting? I see a lot of comparisons to Harvest Moon, but I've never played any games in the series. Just looking for something comfy/relaxing to play.

I thought it was a lot of fun for the 1-2 in-game years that I played it for, but you get rich pretty quickly leaving the game feeling pretty empty/pointless, just like real life.
It's significantly worse than the best Rune Factory games and Harvest moon games, so your only real excuse to buy it is if you don't have a 3DS or don't want to emulate old games.

As someone who hasn't played either HM or RF and is currently waiting for SDV's upcoming content patch, and also thinks HM games suddenly ending after a certain amount of time is bullshit, should I start with a specific RF or is playing them all in order good enough?

RF 3 and 4 are pretty good, if you want to play 1 and 2 play them first because you can never go back to them after playing the later games.
I had fun when I pirated it and I've played a few of the HM games. I'm waiting to buy it when they add the multiplayer.
