Download the latest version of FBI and install games either through CIAs you download and transfer onto your SD, or scan QR codes from 3ds.titlekeys.com with FBI to download and install right on your 3DS.
Freeshop is just a GUI that uses that titlekeys database, you can get it if you want but it's unnecessary and it hasn't worked that well for me.

No they are needed to access the eshop. The eshop has updates for games. Some games,well most games require you to be on the latest update to play online. If you can get the updates from a different source then you're golden.
MH4U was perfect for this and it was what allowed me to stay on 9.2 so long since it wasn't mandatory for you to be updated to play online and the DLC was obtained in game.

I believe you only need to not have one when doing the hacking process because it causes issues if you have the same NNID on your sysNAND and redNAND. After you get rid of redNAND and only have the CFW sysNAND you should be fine.

I treat my console as pet and feel like installing CFW would be more like brainwashing my little console.

You also have access to almost every GBA, GBC, GB, SNES, NES, and retail + eShop 3DS games, including out of region and censored games, all on one portable device with a proper control scheme.
I don't even get how this is possible anymore. Your choices are to pay too much for Cubic\Freakyforms or instantly jump on the next primary hack to come out and hope it doesn't brick your system.
Freakyforms was rendered impossible about 1 hour after release, but at that time you had no idea if it was a stable release or a buggy POS that'll ruin your 3ds.
Another primary hack needs to come out that only depends on your firmware version, but apparently that's not possible anymore after 10.7

That doesn't work because once you are on 11.0 you can't downgrade anymore. Freakyhax is only an entrypoint for homebrew, even if that works on 11.0 it doesn't mean you can install CFW.

A9lh represents the ultimate form of security.
In essence: you hack the 3ds such that you gain admin priviledges at boot, before sysnand even loads. Luma comes in and runs cfw sysnand before sysnand boots. Its perfectly safe
Furthermore, if you brick sysnand, you can run hourglass/emunand9/decrypt9 at boot, and it will be able to restore your sysnand from bricks via backups.
This kind of access will allow us to eventually unbrick Hard bricks
