Am I the only one who thinks that the monochromatic interface in Fallout 3 and beyond trades convenience for theme? I'm playing Fallout 1 now and even though the item screens have very limited space to display items, I still find it better to use because it's not just a list of green words. In Fallout 1 and 2, you don't need to read every line to find something, because you know what it looks like, and your visual perception can quickly and easily pinpoint what you're looking for. In Fallout 3 and after you just have a list of words, and it's not as convenient as thumbnails. I think it even makes the items feel less tangible and more like just data points in a literal inventory catalog.

A lever action can function fine with a side ejection port. In fact, a side-facing port is the best, as (assuming you're using a right-handed rifle if you're right handed, and a left-handed rifle if vice versa) you're throwing brass the farthest way away from your face or hat brim.

NCR's pretty much done expanding. By New Vegas, they're massively overburdened and bloated, barely able to protect their own territories and facing famine issues within a decade.
The war in the Mojave drains from every aspect of the NCR, among those is morale and public support. If the Courier kicks the NCR out of the Mojave hard, the NCR will have suffered a massive loss. In pretty much all independent endings, it's shown that the blame goes onto Kimball and Oliver, and that the NCR millitary faces extreme revaluation and even in some endings, reduction and public disapproval.
The NCR are utterly battered by years of war in the Mojave. They've lost well and truly, and won't be coming back. That is, in terms of millitary. The NCR still holds presence in the form of trading companies, caravans and tourism.

The Followers are from NCR but they're not representatives of it, nor do they particularly want to help NCR spread to other places.
The FEZNV is smaller than NCR, it requires less effort and resources to pretty up and make liveable. House is in open competition with NCR in all areas, it's capitalism. I feel the independent ending is one of the best endings, because the theme of New Vegas is seems to be that all the major factions is trying to take something from the past and remake the Mojave and the present into their vision. NCR with Democracy, Legion with it's absolute rule of Roman Empire, House with his image of Vegas. They all can't let go of the past.
The Independent ending, though dangerous and uncertain, is also one most focused on leaving the past behind and adapting to what the world has become now.

I liked the message it gave out, the whole "let go" thing was far better written than the shitfest that was Lonesome Road.
What I hated about it was the gameplay. Losing all your shit wouldn't be a problem if they balanced it better. If you specialize in Guns you're going to have a major problem for a while since the only reliable weapon is the Spear, and even Energy Weapons users have to be careful since the Holorifle decays so fast and starts with so little ammo.
Not to mention that I ran into a glitch when I played it that wouldn't let me Wait, Sleep, or Fast Travel.

Since Fallout 4, I've realised I much prefer the slideshow ending than being able to play on. You'd have to have a real fucking special post game for it to be worth it, and if you just don't have the time to put it in, a half assed version makes all your efforts seem a bit not worth it.
