Played as Ventus first because he looks like Roxas/Sora, so I figured he would be the primary viewpoint character, but later realized that his whole story was just dicking around with side-characters from Disney movies to fill out his Facebook friends. I think that part of the reason I liked it so much was that I forced myself to make Sora and Riku go to separate worlds before meeting in another one. Like, Riku would be at Notre Dame while Sora was on The Grid, then vice-versa, before they both hit Prankster's Paradise. It would have probably been annoyingly repetitive if I had gone the recommended way.

Yeah, I did a marathon of all the games in the HD remakes (plus 3D) about a year ago. Aside from Aqua being the Epilogue character, I didn't see any particular reason to favor one order, since the timeline tends to jump all over the place. I think after Radiant Garden, the plot just assumes that Terra and Aqua were frozen in time while Ventus went to two or three different worlds ahead of them.

When Terranort split, he split into Ansem, Seeker of Darkness, who is Terranort's Heartless and Xemnas who is Terranort's Nobody. Seeing as Xehanort took over Terra's body and the Nobody is a person's leftover Body and Soul for the next decade or so it's pretty much Terra's body aging.We have confirmation via the Ultimanias that Xemnas has some of Terra's memories, though they appear to be disjointed. this is something that's always weirded me about about the characters in KH...they feel so far removed from actual people. they don't eat (besides ice cream, that is), they don't sleep, they barely ever refer to their parents, like none of them have family, they don't ever wear normal people clothes, they don't do normal people things, and sometimes they don't really act like real people either. it's weird.
i mean, i know you don't show a lot of that stuff in fictional works because it's boring, but i guess that's why i liked KH2's prologue so much. roxas was one of the few exceptions to this because he was shown doing things a normal kid would do, and he reacted to crazy shit happening like a real person would.
