Yeah that's happened to me also, the game really is a test of true friendship. Pretty amazing that I have at least 1 friend that's never got mad at dota with me before. You can get frustrated at the game at times, but jesus christ when the game actually makes a friend go into fits of rage or depression in front of you.

I've noticed a trend among my group where if we get a rando we use him as a scapegoat. Oh this NP, he's shit, he cost us the game. Oh this Axe, he's such a moron, if only we'd been a 5-stack. We use the rando to displace all our frustration on the game going poorly so we don't blame each other, because we don't want to be mad at one another over the game.
Then we get the 5-stack and we're just sitting in silence during the games where we're losing with no real way to recover. It's very uncomfortable.
That's not to say we don't have fun with the game or that we don't have amazing comebacks that makes the whole group laugh and cheer. We play the game for those moments, I think. It's just losing is hard when you gotta say, "dude you seriously built that item? goddamnit dude," or "Why weren't you in the teamfight? Why were you fucking around in top?" And they have to deal with the fact that they fucked up and may have cost the team the game.

How about being good? Let's say that half of the time I've played was with stacks, that's about 2k hours. I've played in at least 3 different stacks, probably more, usually stacks had 2-3 people as core of the stack and some randoms including me. Being the random guy there is a chance that core of the stack will throw you away for mistakes and never invite again, those people are usually friends or brothers so they are pretty much stuck with each other. I was never was thrown out of the stack, I've heard how they shat on each other, but not on me.

That's pretty much the way it is for all stacks. I usually play in a 5 stack or not at all, my only real interest in the game anymore is because friends play it. They're good enough people outside of Dota, in Dota they're fucking abysmal winning or losing.
