2015-onward Bionicle uses CCBS, a generic action figure framework TLG came up with. The other Lego IPs don't have gearbox mechanisms for moving limbs, though. But yes, original Bionicle did have a lot of prefab parts for limbs which didn't really have articulation at the knees or elbows. It did kinda get worse later on.
The usual MOC is usually something resembling the bigger builds rather than the canister models, and use a fuckton of pieces.

I think they lost out so much when they started to use more big, bulky, pre-designed pieces for the models.
The earlier ones still felt like you were building something, not just assembling your action figure. And since the larger sets used pices from the smaller sets, it gave it a kind of cobbled-together aesthetic. Like, the original pieces were all the same, but you assmebled it into different monsters, which was cool. I went well with the "mechanical organisms" setting.

It's pretty much part of Lego's new design policy that they came up with years ago due to the creation of tons of redundant and/or overly specific parts during the "juniorisation" period:
Unless it's outright necessary to create a new part, the designers are told to use pre-existing parts in the most creative ways possible.
So, for example, instead of having every 2016 Toa getting a special weapon mold, they created one generic crystal blade and turned it into staves, broadswords, wings, spikes, combinable scissor swords, etc.
Even Lego's "Big Bang" themes like Nexo Knights are affected by this.
The parts that were created for it are almost all of the kind that can be reused in other themes like the tiny pyramid piece, the shield emblem piece and the windshields or can be used en masse like the knight armors and shields.
We need a remake of Bioncile Heroes.

Yeah but according to Lego, the deepest lore was one of the reasons why G1 eventually failed. And they are right.
But this time, they went too far in the opposite direction, simplifying everything way too much. And the media is just as badly handled as ever.
As convoluted G1 was, one reason why kids couldn't keep up with it was that the lore was spread out over too many forms of media, and a lot of it wasn't even available to everyone. Only a few countries got the books and comics, and you had to go online for further story details. The same is true for G2. The books and comics only come out in a few places and they came out too late, the web animations were shit, the name of the 2015 main villain was only ever revealed in some obscure magazine, and instead of making a widely accessible TV cartoon, they make a Netflix mini series which is again not available in every language.

It doesn't seem like a lot, but it makes staffs, bows, and any other 2 handed weapon way less natural to just slap into your dudes hands.
If anyone is curious, the reason that new Bionicle and old Bionicle are so different is because old Bionicle was under an entirely different building system called Technic (Mostly consists of pegs going into holes and very often mechanical movement). They moved from Technic to a new building system called CCBS that replaced any sort of Technic action figures. CCBS mostly focuses on ball joint connections like the arms of your bionicle popping into place, arms and legs, heads, and even most of the armor pieces pop on this way.
CCBS is overall pretty casual even for lego standards and can't do much than a normal body with a different coat of paint over it and different weapons in hand. Any modern action figure legos with a fun build are due to the fact that the CCBS build is using technic parts. The only highly CCBS build thats been super fun is General Grievous.
Luckily with each passing series in the new Bionicle line they've gone increasingly technic with it. Hopefully if they go far enough we can get reboot bohrok.

Original MNOG didn't have much gameplay, art style was a bit inconsistent, no free roaming, and we only got glimpses into the lore. But it told a story, the characters and events were memorable, and it was fun, atmospheric, mysterious and fulfilling as heck. Cutscenes were awesome too.
MNOG II has a more open world, better visuals, a much more involved gameplay, and a nice, comfy world. But it has little to no story, the lore is spelled out in boring, pointless detail, none of the characters are memorable, we get maybe two shitty cutscenes, the grinding system is tedious, you don't even get to play the championship the entire game's been building up to, and it's just pointless in the end.
MNOG II may be more of a game, but the original outclasses it by a huge margin. Wish they could combine the best aspects of both into a single game, though.
