I liked the way they did fishing in that. It wasn't just about pressing A the instant you heard a sound, that part was consistent and simple. Instead they managed to make reeling it in the actual challenge. Improving your fishing skill would make fish easier to reel in, but it was never impossible. Just really really hard. Between that, the untold stat of certain areas being better than others, the good balancing of it with the time management, and finding the secret fish, this is probably one of my favorite systems right next to Ocarina of Time.

Animal Crossing is one of my least favorite for making it 100% just a quick draw game and for having the rate of fish either always way too low or absurdly high. But I'll add Deadly Premonition to the list of bad fishing games. Shame too because the setting really woulda lent itself to good fishing mechanics.
