ME1 was a good start, but had plenty of flaws. Rather than fix the flaws they turned the games into rather generic shooters. They even changed the atmosphere/aesthetic to something more generic and dark.
1 was a janky but promising sf rpg
2 was a bad rpg, but a good 'shooting + waifus' game
3 was 2 with worse writing and better combat
ME1: 9/10
ME2 on its own: 9/10
ME2 as a sequel to Mass Effect: 6/10
ME3 sans the ending: 7/10
ME3's ending: 0/10
i'm still mad
It's like having a randomization button in character creation that skews facial features further and further when you press it: the result always ends up shittier and uglier then before you pressed the button.

1 was amazing, combat was kinda tough to get into but once you had it down the game was superb. cool setting, great tone, and the enemies were breddy spooky.
2 and 3 i think moved away from the overall story to focus on more personal shit between characters while also making the gunplay easier to pick up.

I think the series combat shouldve evolved to be more like the rainbow six games, more tactical battle scenarios with team compositions that open up more options on the battlefield.

Back before ME3, the series was considered pretty much gold here, and there were huge mass effect generals on /v/ like everyday just talking about it.
Then ME3 came out and everyone just shit on it forever.

ME was good, but not especially great
ME2 was fine but felt like it was a string of filler episodes in a tv series
ME3 had pretty good gameplay, shit ending, which was better when patched but still not satisfying.
I'm still mad.
