Where were you when Unity killed its marketshare?
>>340008746
it's a shit engine
eventually indie devs will learn to use unreal 4
JUST
>>340008915
>eventually indie devs will learn to use unreal 4
Indies will still use Unity because Unity requires no backend libraries, which is why so many used it in the first place.
did they increase it or....?
>>340008746
$125 a month to be able to remove the unity splash screen.
LOL
>>340008915
plenty of good games are made with unity, and there's a lot of pretty ones too
it's entirely up to the developer
i do wish unity wasn't so cpu bound though, it's pretty retarded
>>340008746
did you somehow post the wrong link or were you looking for a shit thread?

Shut up, cuck

ok i will
>>340008746
Can't I just pirate it like photoshop and such?
Wasn't this revenue based like UE4?
>>340010262
Yes
>>340010724
You'll be sued to hell if they catch you tho
>>340010724
>Pirating something that has the potential to earn you money
Yeah great idea
Yeah pirating something for your PC is one thing, but pirating something that you're going to try to sell in full view of the people who know whether or not you've bought it might not be the best idea.
>>340010804
>>340010961
If you monetize it, definitely. For making a free game? I doubt it.
>>340010961
Howww will they ever knowww
>>340010804
Honestly, most companies dont care if you pirate as long as you buy a license needed before you release a game for sale.
Same with photoshop/maya/etc
>>340011205
Because the game will say "Made with Uni...."
Oh... he. heheh.. heahhahawrhawheahtehwrgrgfuory
>>340011309
Are you okay anon?
>>340010804
How the fuck would they even know?
I mean it's not like when you upload your game to the App Store it says "this game was built with Unity3D PirateBay edition".
>>340008915
>eventually indie devs will learn to use unreal 4
You're mistaking people who use Unity with people who actually wanna make something worthwhile. Majority of the people who use Unity do it because they can just buy a pack of shit and then release it on steam in a totally broken format for easy money not because they actually wanna make a video game they think would be enjoyable.
>>340011732
Because they can easily check if the game was made with unity, and then they can check to see if you or your company have a licence for it.
They probably won't if your shitty game gets 10 downloads but if you make it big you will get caught.
>Make 90% of your game using the free shit
>Buy a pro license to finalize the game and release
>Sell enough copies to make the money spent on a license meaningless
>Literally profit
What's the problem?
>>340011732
You think companies that sell products don't keep a record of who they've sold to?

>>340012039
> The splash screen is the only way they can see if a game was made using unity
Good b8 m8 you had me going for a while I'm feeling a weak 7 on your bait because you went full retard at the end
>>340012039
Yeah because that's the only thing that's gonna stop a company from realizing someone is using their engine with their assets that they created.
What the fuck is this.
>>340011875
Problem with Free unreal engine is that you have to start paying a 30% royalty once you make over 300k
>>340012348
You can't use the engine if you make over 100k, but no royalties required.
>>340009169
>plenty of good games are made with unity,
Name some.
>>340012240
Well that's gonna be a tough one cuz you can make your own assets and pirate Unity anyway
>>340012171
Besides looking at the package contents there isn't really an easy way to tell besides the splash screen.
Honestly, Unreal lighting just completely shits over Unity. It's so amazing you can probably make believable real-time stuff with it.
>>340012651
enter the gungeon
>>340012834
Unreal lightning takes way more coding.
>>340012651
The 40k Space Hulk games are pretty alright
>>340012651
Distance
Unity only gets a bad rap because people who don't know what shaders even are flock to it because it's free and easy. The engine doesn't have any serious limitations compared to other engines.
>>340012651
Ori

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Unity_games
explain why none of these count
>>340011898
Exactly
You could even set up a kickstarter before you even start selling copies
With pre-order money off of idiots as well, a silly fee is nothing
>>340013308
It's really because of Unity having an asset store and thousands of available tutorials, any lazy asshole can shit out a half baked Unity game on steam several times throughout the year
>>340008746
So what exactly is the difference now?

Anons boipussy status: destroyed.
>>340013870
You pay more under the pretense that you get "the complete package" even if it's full of features you won't use
For example the iOS and Android components had to be purchased separately before, now they're bundled with the subscription whether you use them or not.
This basically screws up smaller studios.
>>340014071
Welp, you got me at least.

>>340012651
There aren't that many good games made with Unity. Some of these are debatable but the best of the bunch I can remember from the last list I drew up, and some of them I wonder why they even bothered with Unity.
>Ori
>Gang Beasts
>Distance
>Cities: Skylines
>Jazzpunk
>Hearthstone>Huniepop(I don't know why he used Unity, maybe to release on as many platforms as he could easily)
>TIS-100
>Pillars of Eternity
>Grow Home
>Besiege
They have almost no good networked multiplayer games either. Most Unity games are half-finished prototype cash grabs. This happens with all the engines but with most alarming frequency from Unity.
