Despite that the bosses are good, most aren't designed well enough to be enjoyable more than once. And yet the game requires a dozen repeat hunts often. It gets old after one or two games honestly. They need to truly advance this series (open world or something) and reduce some RNG on rare drops.

As someone who put 1200 hours into Tri, another game locked into high rank, I only made it like 300 into MHGen/MHX before I lost all will to play. The variants are largely redundant, with most of them having useless equipment except for 3 (Ember Dino, Tempest Narga, Blazing Los). The best greatsword in the game is normal Tigrex's, for instance.
Not to mention the game looks and runs worse than 3U or 4U on the o3ds or the n3ds. It's just mediocre shit all around. I didn't like GQs in 4U at first but after experiencing MHX's endgame I came running back to 4U and fell in love with GQs. I suspect that's what will happen to the playerbase for MHGen for the most part.

if you want good gear just play multiplayer, singleplayer to the bare minimum. you'll get the most out of the game online anyways. don't let accusations of being carried phase you, MH is a resource game and you've got no reason to waste your time on missions with shitty payouts when you could be spending the same effort on hunts with 10x better rewards
