The gameplay in GrimGrimoire is actually surprisingly good and pretty deep, you'd think a 2D RTS wouldn't really work but for some odd reason it does. Also lesbians.
Odin Sphere
Would anyone recommend odin's sphere if I didn't like Dragon's Crown? The story was just awful and the combat and environments just got repetitive.

Odin sphere easily. Skills arent a get out of jail card. You can still get knocked right out of it unlike Muramasa.

Are you talking about Muramasa? Because the "hardest" difficulty has "one-hit kills" (not really one hit, since you can block with your sword), and you have to beat it for a trophy, but that difficulty is just the easy mode with one-hit kills. The actual hard difficulty is much harder, and requires you to manually block instead of the usual automatic, and is not required for any trophies (except beating the last boss, but you can switch difficulty whenever you want).

This is a really sad post. Dragon's Crown wasn't even about the story. It was a modernized successor to the DnD arcade games, and oozes with charm and humor. It was also primarily a multiplayer beat em up, with an emphasis on loot, so of course the gameplay got repetitive.

Pretty much any thing Vanillaware is a great experience so definitely if you liked one game you should try out the others no matter how different
Both were fine at the time. Be nice if vanillaware focued on new games rather than remastering the 4 they made 2 generations ago.

Same, though my memories are more on the SNES side with shit like Final Fight. All the same, I dug the high fantasy stuff as someone that still plays DnD with a group, dug the art and character designs, and the loop was satisfying, even going it alone.

You're supposed to be selective with your weapon. Atk power doesn't mean shit. I always bring two weapons with long skill animations and another for damage. Always made sure i had that infinite durability stone too for annoying bosses like that fucking tanuki.
