There's no reason to use .52
You can turn off the SMG and shotgun in the newer versions, and even autoclimbing (which is turned on in .52).
The newer versions are more stable, and have better net code.

Autoclimb is kinda bad, this isn't a fast game but autoclimb makes it simpler to just walk forward. If you need to jump on every block, it slows down the tempo because you really don't want to jump all the way back from spawn

There is a difference though. If you have autoclimb, walking up a hill is fairly easy. If you have to jump every step, you will definitely want to go around or even build a bridge to cross a ridge. It's a small change but it changes the flow quite a bit
