>giant red dotted line for you to follow through the entire level
Wow, thanks. As if the vibrant red boxes and doors were too subtle.
>>
>>339955126
Not even playing this game purely because you have to grind to unlock moves you had in the first game. This game is about going fast, I shouldn't have to grind missions just so I can fucking roll.
>>
The combat looks so fucking clunky and the AI absolutely retarded.

It was obvious from the beta.

Fuck that.

I fucking hate all of this RPG/progression system bullshit in skill based games. Leave that gay ass shit for turn based games and cinematic games.
>>

DMC had that too, nobody hated on DMC for that
>>
>>339956662
It's good if they do it like in MGR where you can unlock some moves that might be useful but the tools you're given initially are more than enough.
>>
>>339956872
I did. It was really annoying if you had to create a new save on a different platform. DMC4 is the worst unless you play on PC.
>>

it serves you faggots right for your rose-tinted glasses. Those games are quite literally "Squandered Hype: The Game".
>>

I don't know if I was just bad, but that final room before the end of the game was so rage-inducing.
But ya, the game isn't that good. Never was

I'd prefer an hour of gameplay with no commentary, but I have to let other people tell me why I should like a game, I guess.
>>

There's one part where you have to go down these stairs and a bunch of SWAT officers are coming up them. I must've died like 30 times in that area because no matter what you do you die. DICEs level design SUCKS. Every level feels like a bunch of buildings thrown together, there never feels like a flow to get used to.

Inside that building that was like 5 levels tall, orange, and swarmed SWAT? Nearly impossible. I just did trial and error because there was no good way to do that. I ended up doing something like jumping from the third floor, taking a bunch of damage but landing behind a bench. I kept trying to run out the door reload after reload until it worked.

The sniper battle in the green sewer towers/area could have been so much better too, but was squandered with fucking linear jumping "puzzles" of only one way to do it. I didn't die but it was fucking annoying.

Theres 3 settings, Easy, Original, or Hard.

Hard doesnt give you anything
Original is like ME1
Easy is what you see in the videos.

In this particular video, they're not. Alex doesn't even really care for it. Vinny and Austin just mock the level design and relate how they're in New York.

The combat is 10x more fluent then mirrors edge 1 though, you got more moves that allow you to bounce off the enemies and keep your momentum. Its not like your forced to fight them either.
>>

@5:50 in the video

"Can you turn off that red mist thing?"
"That's the runner vision"
"Yeah, that was in the first game with the red stuff that means go here. But what about this red waypoint mist bullshit?"

Brad isn't as bad as Alex or Austin, granted, but goddamn. I think he makes me angrier to watch than ANY on that staff. With the double A's, I'll just turn off their content, but Brad? He's usually paired up with someone I DO want to watch or listen to but he

Then put in on the 2nd option, between "On" and "Off" called "Classic" which paints the pathed obstacles as red. Such as a red door. Or a red pipe. Only when you're within 10 feet, and without the mist.

You're complaining about something that's there, when it's only an option. Then, you complain about it's loss when there's still another option that gives you exactly what you want. What a 'tard.

Well at least it wasn't a food analogy. If you were talking about the original Mirror's Edge, with well designed and laid out levels, you'd have a point. Catalyst is a cluserfuck of an open world that relies on leading the player by the nose.

EA's Early access service.
The game runs at 720P too.

GBeast sucks and I feel bad for Vinny. I hope CBS closes that shop and Vinny is okay with moving back.

On the one hand, I'm glad Vinny is back home in New York to raise his family. And it's great when he's back in 'frisco or doing events and we see him with the real GiantBomb.
On the other hand, FUCK SAN FRANSISCO. I feel so BAD for the other guys that they have to work in that town, even if it is basically gaming central.
>>
>>339960160
Just because something can be turned off doesn't mean it automatically fixes it.
Game and level design isn't some imaginary concept, the game was designed around the assumption of runner vision and therefore disabling it isn't the same as if it never existed.

The most obvious example is the doors all over the world which aren't real, but with runner vision disabled you won't know they're fake until you're next to them, by which time it's too late and you're stuck trying to find a new route.

So don't follow where the game's story wants you to go? Do a side-mission or explore the area yourself. You might not believe it, but the "runner vision" is just a recommended path...it's not the only path.

To be clear and transparent, I don't give a fuck about this game so I'm not trying to defend it or something. It looks boring. I just find when you endlessly critique something and assume flaws that aren't there, even on this boring game, something deep inside me wants to point it out to you.

>Hey player here's a 60 second timer and a dropoff point in an awkward corner of the map, fucking get there
Yeah, those side missions are going to be real fun without the game giving me a vague idea of where to go.
>>
>>
>>339960619
Lets be honest ME didn't have brilliantly laid out levels but you are still right that:

Levels>Open world

They should have made more open levels with an emphasis that the higher you are in the level the quicker the route but harder to master and more open to helicopter fire or futuristic gun drones or something..
Dropping down floors or storeys makes you take a longer route with potential for indoor sections but with more cover.
>>
>>339955126
So they disliked the first gem and find this one kinds shitty?

Sounds like I have to install Origin now.
>>
>>339960785
You want the perfect path in a non-linear game to be designed so you inherently travel on it without any hand-holding? Basically, you're telling me you want to "be gud" but you "aren't gud" and when people say "git gud" you blame the developers for making a game where you aren't "inherently gud."

Wanna take the right path, without any aid right from the start? That'll be tough. But I bet, like any game, once you've been playing a while you'll start to notice the visual cues and will know what to do/where to go.
>>
>>339959719
ME 1 was way less linear if you turned it off. Since there were multiple ways to get to areas if you were creative, but the red markers automatically made you see those ways first.
The game is more fun with the red turned off. Not harder, just more fun.

You take out the first guy, grab his gun, take out the next, grab that gun so you have a fresh amount of ammo, and keep doing that until you're down the stairs and out of the building. It wasn't hard at all.
>>
>>339961670

Oh boy another 'open world' game clouded by - do this here, get that there bring it here, cut this connect there, come back here. Go rescue this lot, go intercept that person.

I'm sure they'll put denuvo and shit on it. Oh well, just saving me $80.
>>
>>339961526
>you'll start to notice the visual cues
The point is there aren't properly placed visual cues because instead of using cues in the game world, they have glowing red indicators which you have now disabled. They don't hint at the path with properly placed geometry or entities in the game for you to respond to.
You see it clearly in OP where they have no idea where to go when indoors until the helper indicators appear. The building has multiple routes, many of which are wrong, but there's no way to know until you're told which one they want you to go down.

Good (and often old) games don't need arrows because there are signposts (even literally) in the world, characters explain what to do and where to go, and you would actually find it like a real human.
Good luck finding anything when you disable quest indicators on any game which has intrusive ones by default, but the 'option' to turn them off.
>>
>>339955126

How finished in this game supposed to be exactly? The amount of pop-in is pretty distracting.

Oh wow I thought it's was an early sneak peek. I know mirror's edge is supposed to look clean and pure but that really doesn't look much better than the previous game. The animations and interaction with the level geometry is a bit wonky too IMO. I can't really say I'm impressed.
>>
>>339962556
They have no idea because two of them have not played the game at all and Alex has only been playing a couple hours. The visual cues are still there, they just aren't as obvious as a stark contrast of red color. I never said it would be easy or obvious, but that's why the game has it in the first place; they expect people aren't going to be good enough to recognize all the elements without a little tutorial and help. At least at first. Later, I bet you could enter a building and look around noticing the skidmarks on walls indicating you should wall run there. You'll notice conspicuously well placed platforms that seem jumping distances apart. Separations in waist-level railings where you can see another building to hop to easily. Too-perfectly-spaced poles that look like you can easily swing between. A giant pipe that you can climb going up the side of a ledge-less building, something that seems out-of-place in a running platformer. A big icon for you to use your mag rope.

If you play a game and THINK about what it is and let experience help you, you'll realize you don't need the giant red doors and they're not as hidden as you think. How do you think IRL parkour works? They can't find a path ever because the path seems too hidden?

You sound like someone who never played Mario 64 and didn't find out the cool different ways you could get the same star.
>>

Linear level design will ALWAYS be superior to open world. Even if you eventually do start seeing more cues in the world it's still going to offer a fraction of what the first game did as far as time trials and speedruns go
