Can we talk about how uttlerly and completely BTFO Nintendo is?

Software like this allows you to pirate games straight from Nintendos servers, and they can't even do a single thing about it. It's the literal version of that bicycle comic.

How can Nintendo recover from this? Can they recover?
>>
>>339940114
>bicycle comic.
I have no idea what that is.
>>
>>339940114
don't kid yourself, Nintendo isn't losing a single dime. You wouldn't have bought those games anyway without piracy
>>
>>339940857
You're using their bandwidth to download the games for free, which would cost them.
>>
Has anyone used the Freakyforms exploit yet? I tried ordering it from a gamestop but the ones in my area are sold out. I ordered a copy from surubaby.com for $11. Waiting to get it this coming week.
>>
They'll plug this pretty quick I'd wager, and ban any console that used the appto download to their system, and probably stop non-3DS/WiiU clients from connecting to their CDN and add actual auth checks to this shit. Although thefact their CDN allowed such a thing in the first place isnt reassuring.
>>
Why is their security so bad.
>>

>>
>>339941432
I don't think the CFW Scene gets any better than this.

This is probably worse than what happened to the PSP, as I don't recall being able to pirate straight from the playstation store.
>>
>>339941278
Right now the Freakyforms exploit is mostly for people who need a primary homebrew exploit on the latest firmware.
It still won't be possible to perform firmware downgrades and cfw installation.

It's easy if you can read. The only difficulty lies in the whole process taking 3-4 hours and you getting distracted or impatient and skipping/fucking up steps.
>>

>>
>>339943998
Fairly simple if you're on 10.7 or below, worthless on 11.

Now when I say simple I mean that it's not hard to follow instructions however it is very time consuming and it can take you up to 5 hours or more to get it done.

I don't see it.

Piracy killed plenty of great GBA series and pirates don't care.

This is nothing new.

Nintendo could silently change the eshop log keys so anything else that accesses the server can be flagged and Nintendo can start sending out court summons for stealing.
>>
>>339944393

On 10.7 now actually. Links?
>>
>>339940114

It's Nintendo's fault in the first place for setting up a completely retarded system.

The ONLY reason why this works is because games are linked to your console and not a fucking NNID account. So all pirates need is the ticket file on their consoles for the server to know you """own""" the game to proceed the download. Whoever thought this was a good idea is hopefully fired by now.

And before anyone says they'll fix it, no, it can't be fixed unless they plan on completely redoing the eshop and finding a way to keep everyone's current purchases, which they can't.

10.7 you need to go the guide listed on /vg/ however you will need an entry point like OoT or Cubic Ninja and action replay powersaves or a friend that already has a hacked 3ds so you can put on a special save

There's also an ORAS entry point but I don't know if you can use it for cfw.

Funnily enough Nintendo UK Store still lists the digital version of the game.
http://store.nintendo.co.uk/nintendo-3ds-family-ddc/freaky-forms-deluxe-your-creations-alive-digital-download/10881625.html

What the chances though that if you buy this you can't redeem your download?

Their physical copies are out of stock too. This could be Cubic Ninja all over again.
>>
>>339944373
You need to setup custom firmware on your 3ds
>>
>>339945774

Get rid of rxtools and get menuhax and Luma. Start at #19 of the guide https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki/Part-2-(Downgrading)
>>

Wait, what's the advantage of Luma over CFW? I know Luma works off the Sysnand, but activates the hax before nintendo's system, but CFW has been pretty easy to use as well.
>>

Luma is just another CFW like rxtools or cakes. What you're talking about is arm9loaderhax, which runs with another CFW like Luma.

>>
>>339941437
It literally took people to the end of the console's life cycle to start pulling this shit off. It took even longer for the 3DS.

I wouldn't call that bad. It's just that they FINALLY got a hook in that's letting them understand how shit works and is giving them an upper hand.
>>
>>339947220
>Nintendo partners with Denuvo for NX

To be fair, they made it almost the whole way through the Wii U lifecycle without piracy.

Even the 3DS was practically dead in the water before it got hit with anything serious. The worst it had for the longest time was that card loader.
>>
>>339945774
http://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-updating-from-rxtools-to-luma3ds.427735/
>>
>>339947220
They would essentially need to rewrite the firmware of both the 3DS and the Wii U, and then they'd have to rework their entire authenticating process for the eShop just to "push back". Granted, they could ban people by doing a check for a couple things which are:
>Tickets for eShop games not purchased on the NNID with they could cross-reference when you logged onto the eShop or generally any online service.
>Out of region games being played on your system in general
>Tickets and titles for files that aren't official such as homebrew CIA files or custom VC files.
>Run a consistency check on the bootloader to see if everything checks out and if it doesn't you then either force the person to update or flag them as illegitimate.
>>
>>339941432
Yeah, if it weren't for all those deluded employees who think of the Internet as "that new thing"

Seriously, the Wii sold on its own, they could have used money for HD and Online development (which was a thing even when the Wii released) but only started to care about that when the WiiU was done.
>>
I think I'll pass on this one. Seems a bit too cocky.
>>
There's programs out there that literally unban your console/NNID within seconds. That's how so many people are spamming Miiverse with custom images.

Nintendo can't do anything but pack up and make a new console with better everything.
>>
>>339947220
Oh, eventually. In my experience, a lot of the 'We got them!' bragging from pirates is all talk.

Cemu, for example, faked a video that showed they got Bayonetta for Wii U running on an emulator to attract supports for their patreon campaign.

I'm sure Nintendo will brick consoles they catch doing this and update the eshop to make this impossible relatively quickly.

Piracy killed the DS's software development which is why you saw everyone just outright abandon it when the 3DS came out. Normally having such a large user base, companies will keep producing games for it. Ala the PS2 still getting shit until a few years ago.

Unless there's a way to access the eShop without a NNID, Nintendo can just look up the logs and compare if a person has bought the games they're downloading.

The fact people are stealing them means it should be piss easy to figure that out if a person as a balance of 0, but downloaded $2000 worth of games.
>>
>>339950593

The thing is that your purchases are actually logged. If you log into your NNID your account history lists your purchases which they could cross reference. Yes, the tickets are tied to your console itself, but they could easily just scan your system as soon as it connect to the internet for tickets that shouldn't be there such as out of region games or eShop games if you don't have an NNID tied to the account(Or if you did at one point you can have it check) and then just ban the system and/or account from accessing the internet if something doesn't match.
It's not even from a downloading matter, just from a simple ticket matter since they're installed automatically from any CIA you get.

The only way around this would be to never go online with the system.

Does your Samurai have Solid Stance? If not, then get it and spam your strongest avaiable move. Your Duelist isn't going to help much unless he gets Mana Gain or if you use him to set up X-Burn but then, you'd have two attackers who need to set-up and these two fuckers are just going to ruin all your build-up before you even start.
You need someone in your party to heal and provide support. Fortuner is the best class for that.
Agent is pretty busted with Assassin's React too if you equip two crit rings and use Rush Shot and they can also provide support with Trick Hands and Hacking, they fit well in almost any team.

The ticket is just used to authenticate the download. When you buy a game on the eShop, you get a ticket (the titlekey) that confirms you bought the game. The ticket isn't unique to you or your console, so anyone with the ticket can download the game.

There's literally 0 way of knowing if someone got it legitimately or not.

>>
>>339955532
>There's literally 0 way of knowing if someone got it legitimately or not.
But it's simple. Like I said, you could easily just see if the system itself was ever authorized to have the ticket in the first place by checking with the eShop if it was purchased through an NNID that was ever added. Granted this can't work for cartridge games of your region, however it can work for any eShop games since you have to have permission to have those since anything whitelisted would be accounted for and you need an account to have them, it can work for any game that isn't part of your region which can also be checked for, and so on.

I like free shit too, but I just can't for the life of me get behind this. I'm sorry. I'll "pirate" if it's not available in my region. I'll "pirate" if I don't like the localized version, but I just can't bring myself to steal games just because I can't afford them. Call me a moral fag or call me autistic, but I really think piracy has an impact on the video game industry. I don't think it helps it at all. In fact, I actually think piracy makes things worse. Why would nintendo waste resources when they know people are just going to steal? Why would any game developer do that? This is one of the reasons why a lot of developers feel the need to play it extra safe.

Now before you attack me, let me just say I totally understand /v/'s stance on Nintendo. They're apparently the worse thing ever and they "deserve" to die. Regardless of bad localization choices (which is all on NOA) and various other pants-over-head stupid decisions, I just don't believe that they deserve to die. I can't bring myself to abide by this board's witch hunt mentality. I still like Nintendo games. I liked my Wii U. I liked my 3DS. While I was enjoying games like 3D World, Tropical Freeze, Bravely Default, etc, I had no idea that I was literally having fun with "the worse console this gen." That's probably because this was before I started browsing /v/. I've grown to be more cynical towards video games since, unfortunately.

Regardless, I want someone to show me one game dev who believes piracy doesn't have a negative impact on them.

It's also worth noting that I don't buy (or pirate) a lot of games in general because I need to finish my fucking backlog. An unlimited amount of free games will only encourage me to continue that bad habit, but that's just me.

Nigger the ticket IS the authorization. The ticket says "this guy paid for this product, and here is the permission to download the game"

The only difference from a regular transaction is that my cash isn't put into Nintendo's bank account.
>>
>>339940114
is this not possible on the psvita or other consoles?
>>
>people gloating over destroying sales and chances of localizations
I will never understand this. I mean, if you don't care for the games either way, and just happen to have a 3DS for some reason, I guess, but if you bought one to care for the games, doing this is only biting your own butt.

This isn't a "piratefags justify yourselves" post, I'm just saying that it seems weird, unless you buy the system especially for pirating on it.

>>
>>339956390

Never ever.
Sony may have abandoned the Vita but they'll be damned if they let you steal from them.

Also Vita gets a decent amount of localization announcements and piracy would kill it, 3DS is done so who even cares at this point?
>>
>>339956819
They have though, 3DS games cost 50 dollars and PS4 games cost 80.
>>
>>339956389
and I'm saying they can easily check their own personal records to see if you ever bought it by their own logs even if your system itself is telling them you bought it. Out of region tickets are a huge red flag since you can't use them to begin with, same with the eShop since you need an NNID to download them at all which would require them to have logged the system being authorized with the ticket. Your system might be saying "Hey, he bought this", but if their own servers don't list that that console ever paid for it through any NNID then that's another red flag which is why this wouldn't really work for your own region games that are on a cartridge.

When you have the system do a check for installed tickets when you go online it could easily throw up red flags for ones that aren't in their database(Homebrew) and ones that are not of your region(By comparing to your current update).
>>
>>339956883
And they used to be... what? 40 and 70? Anyway, okay.
>>
It's their fault for making all of that verification shit client-side.
>>
>>339955979
The problem is that the account system wasn't a thing for years, and consoles even come with games pre-installed. Because of that, the entire system was built around the idea that the console itself could handle authentication. You have the ticket, you own the game. You transfer to a new 3DS, it transfers the ticket, you still own the game without having an account. They wanted an e-shop, but thought it would hurt sales to force parents to make accounts for their children.

Tons and tons of legitimate users have games on their system that aren't attached to any account, and cross-referencing anything will burn all of those people that actually paid Nintendo money.
>>
>>339956883
And that kinda still doesn't justify stealing, but sure okay.
>>
>>339956883
>>339956945
Oh I forgot to add, I'm just saying. I live in Norway and our currency tanked completely with the fall in oil prices recently. Games in my country hasn't gotten more expensive than they used to be, but it sucks for me because I usually import and when I pay in american dollars it's horrible because 1 USD used to be 6 kr, now it's 9 kr. Sucks.
>>
>>339956665
I bricked my 3ds twice so I have a valid opinion. There is a really small risk BUT you can avoid a brick by formatting the 3ds before doing anything and the Plialect guide doesn't tell you that. That was the reason I softbricked twice and succeded on my third attempt.

Another advice is the whole process takes a lot of time. I suggest you to do it on a saturday then continue another day because it is tiring. 100% worth it, I'm replaying Ouendan because it's the greatest DS game ever
>>
Hopefully this will teach Nintendo to stop making games! HAHA

Here's the thing. Even to this day, an account is not actually required to buy games on the eshop. You have to have one to get free stuff like trailers and demos, but not stuff you buy. I know because I have a Japanese 3ds and used point cards to get some stuff. No Japanese NNID.

That's the major problem on their end. How many of their users do not have an account? How many legitimate customers would be affected by trying to plug a hole that they don't have the information needed to plug?
