does this mean, because of the dead end and how literally nothing is in this room, that the writer thought there will be future dlc at this location?

or does that mean that the deacons are a placeholder boss and should have been replaced with something better, but FROM ran out of time?

sure, but you can easily cut that part out of the game. the doll, the barrier, who cares. point is, if there is a single fight were you think that from was being cheap with it, it was the deacons. somehow I think that during development, they wanted you to meet someone else there, but changed it for some reason.

I'm guessing it's because of the player messages that were left in the DLC entrances in DaS2 saying "bloody expensive!"

OPs pic is fucking meaningless especially considering it doesn't even show what the message gesture is pointing at; though I vaguely remember there being a lot of gated looking bits in that boss room so who knows.

The Deacons are a pretty full-fledged boss though. They have several unique skins and animations, and two phases.

Hell, they're pretty fun, the most developed and enjoyable mob-style boss I've seen.

Its more of an atmosphere fight and not meant to be a challenge. The music is great, the fight is unique and once the Pope starts screaming and the room darkens with cursed fog it was a genuine "Oh shit" moment.

Even if you think its lazy therefore shit, it means that they've made a memorable encounter with barely any resources, and thats a plus in my book.


If you want shitty deacons then check out prowling magus + congregation in Dark Souls 2. Now that was an embarassingly bad "bossfight".

Yhorm was absolutely stupid, I don't get why'd they have to hamfist some cheap DeS reference in and turn a perfectly fine bossfight into a snore

Wolnir would be fine if his right hand wasn't glitched, it constantly warps around the place

The dragon was kinda stupid, but also pretty neat to do the first time. Its an optional boss anyways so I don't mind

Aside from that it probably has the best bosses in the series, then again they've put the effort of 2 bosses into 1, which means that it only has around half the bosscount of the other entries

even if from wanted them to be a more mechanically challenging boss, I doubt they were ever "not meant to be there"

Royce, Klimt and McDonnell all seem like pretty important characters.

Fighting them on SL1 is actually quite interesting, because it gives you enough time to see that the developers actually made the mobs work together, which is unusual for from mob bosses, they rarely ever give the adds ai to work with each other
