Okay, a few points:
1: Civ 5 is shit compared to the earlier games which are far more complex and diverse, it mostly appeals to casuals
2: If you discover the same tech three times in two days, you are playing the game terribly wrong and it's no wonder you don't have fun. A single game of Civ should last at least 200 hours, and when it's done it's time to drop it for a year and play other games, it's not a game you play back to back.

These games are all about finding your own fun, they just provide you with many ways to do so unlike a standard game where it is (Get to the story ending) and (Win an online match) only.

i've had games where i dominated with a stuart push and then i've had games where i've been wrekt by a t-85 in a favorable spot on the map and that's just vs the AI.
i tend to not play online because of the lag that is always there.

absolutely untrue, the cultural victory was just amassing a lot of shit in 4, religion was a simple and automatic process in 4, and spies were just a military unit. The primary change that made the game less complex (happiness) doesn't actually make the game less complex, just easier (and slightly busted thus why it's back to city level in 6).
I know it scool and all to play the retro-so-much-better card, but Brave New World is overall just as complex as Beyond the Sword and in some reguards even more so.
