I farmed the rotten through every playthrough even on a ng+4 character just to get enough soul memory each time so that I didn't have to go through tseldora cove and fight freja.
I wouldn't even be able to look at her or any of the spiders leading up to that fight.
Farming the rotten took forever, but he was probably the easiest boss in the game.
I never had any trouble with either of the spiders in bloodborne, but fuck me I couldn't look at the fluorescent flowers and I always ran past the sewer centipedes in das3.

This. People hyped up how spooky they were in Skyrim but they did nothing for me and I'm TERRIFIED of spiders. The biggest mistakes people make with vidya spiders is their lack of creativity in making scary shit, so they make them make gross noises and move like regular animals. What makes spiders actually scary is how still they are until they run or attack and that they're relatively silent. Vidya devs don't get this for some reason. They can make very realistic looking spiders but they can't make them act like spiders which is what makes them scary in the first place.

Giant spiders are some of the worst
enemies in gaming for several reasons.
For one, they are wildly cliche. Giant spiders, are almost always arbitrarily shoved
into the game. They always live in some
cave filled with webbing. HOW ORIGINAL.
Even in Dark Souls II, which has an entire
section dedicated to spider enemies, they
are there for basically no reason. It seems like developers feel like they
HAVE to put spiders in.
Also, when has fighting giant spiders ever
been fun? Think of one giant spider battle
you enjoyed. They almost always consist
of them spitting some shit at you,
poisoning you, or lunging. And there's a
billion of them. Every giant spider battle
is exactly the same. Zelda kind of mixes it
up since the spiders typically hang from a
web so you gotta hit their underbelly. This
is still a boring enemy. No one looks
forward to fighting these guys. People
never say "Yo, this spider battle's gonna
be intense!" but instead, "Christ, the
fucking spider area is coming up."
Lastly, arachnophobia. The fear of
spiders. This is a very real thing that
many people suffer from. Some people won't play games with giant
spiders. You never see
this with other enemies. Developers know
people don't like them, and yet add them
in anyways. Why? Is it supposed to be
scary? You're making a fantasy game where
you swing around a magic sword. And if
you want to scare the player, putting in a
giant spider seems really cheap and
unimaginative. It just seems like contempt
for the player.
Now I know someone's gonna come in
here and describe an example where a
spider the size of a house contributed to
their overall enjoyment of the game, but replace that enemy with something else.
