Watching Kai is probably the way to go. You don't have nostalgia for it, so the changed music won't matter, and it's a fairly accurate adaptation of the manga, with the filler from Z removed. Trunks' timeline is different from the main timeline we follow.
It's like GT and Super; their timelines are both the same up to a point (the defeat of Buu), but events unfold differently at one part causing them to split into seperate timelines.
In Trunks' case, the timelines first split when Cell arrives in the past.

I don't hate it, and I don't love it. I can't tell whether my lukewarm reaction is due to the show itself not being that great, or if I've just grown out of the DB formula at this point. I think a part of my problem is that they're playing it way too safe. The first two arcs were elongated retellings of the movies, and the most recent arc was just a tournament that really didn't have any stakes involved. I'm still waiting for that moment where it starts getting really good, and we're almost 50 episodes in.

More options for customization, maybe more races, like android, or some new CaC where it's a generic alien of your naming with a bunch of different customization options, skin textures and weird features and such. The option to make non-fat male Majins similar to Super Buu (I'll end up making a QT female Majin regardless, but the option would be nice). I want even more cool skills, and less useless ones. No stats tied to costumes and make all costumes color-able. Custom aura colors.
Is it unreasonable to want all this? I could do without the generic alien race, but I thought it might be cool to have. I just want to finally have the perfect DBZ game.
