I feel bad for the guy.
His writing sucked, but nothing about that game is good, speaking in terms of visual aesthetic, mechanical depth, longlasting appeal, or, well, anything, really.
I don't know if he was in charge of all the world building and lore or if he only did the shitty one-liners and script "punch-up" that was so cringe-worthy, but whatever it might have been, it's clear he's being used as a scapegoat.
People were loudly expressing their disinterest with the game over a year ago. Gearbox was cocky and chose to ignore all of those very blatent shrugs and "mehs," and they probably lost millions in distribution alone as a result of not heeding the obvious warning signs. Sometimes you need to make the tough call and end a venture before you waste even more money on it than you already have. Gearbox thought it was above that, and their hubris bit them in the ass. Good.

Battleborn was tracking ahead of Borderlands when it was originally released. That means Battleborn outsold Borderlands at first...but Borderlands sold 2 million copies worldwide during it's first 2 months.
So we had an initial spike of sales, followed by an immediate nosedive in which Battleborn wasn't tracking ahead of anything. There's about 120,000 copies sold on Steam, and I highly doubt that the Xbox and Playstation communities have more than 300,000 between the both of them.

The game has barely any logic in it's colour choices, everything is equally saturated and colourful, therefore making it look like a total mess.

Absolutely nothing about this character looks cohesive or thought-out. It looks like the artist was trying to get out early, so they decided to cobble together some left-over assets and call it a day.

I bought it a couple days after it was released on ps4, put in about 120 hours. I played each story mission about once, they sucked but the pvp was fun. Stopped playing it about a week ago when some content promised with a patch never came.
I'll probably play a few rounds each time a new character is released. The real problem with the game isn't the lack of players (on console) it's the lack of transparency. The patches are too light, mostly bug fixes when huge balance and matchmaking issues are still prevalent.I guess most game companies aren't ready to tackle pvp games.

The writing is self referential and is in love at how clever the jokes are. The character design is always some exaggerated mess of other people's ideas redone just enough to say they're making fun of them.

This. The TF2 characters are perfect. They all fit together and yet have their own unique silhouettes and unique personalities to them. It's super memorable and get that across with minimal lines of dialog even needing to be said and practically zero world building.
Overwatch went more off the deep end with the designs and needed to do a ton of work into a story just to try and fit them all together, and even then that doesn't quite work for some and you end up with some oddballs like a random Dwarf for them Warcraft players even though the rest of the cast is pretty dang human and some mad max junkies in the middle of an otherwise highly advanced civilization. Credit where credit is due though, they did a good job keeping their designs simple enough to convey what they need to at a glance, and how they all animate right down to how they all walk is very distinct.
Battleborn is just throwing everything at the wall and hoping it sticks. They made a story pretty much exclusively to say "none of these people fit together" and have no sense artistic sense of when to hold back.

The Gearbox character design is absolute trash. Everything is overdesigned. You can't even make out where all the stuff is attached to. Because there is MORE stuff on the way. They managed to make Miko, who is very well designed. Why couldn't they apply the same principles to the rest?

I really like the basic ideas they had in mind for the characters in Battleborn but jesus the endresults are busy as fuck, with atleast 2-4 colors too many, too much contrast and too many unecessary details and so looks the the whole game in every video I've seen so far.
Same with the voicelines. You don't need 18 minutes of Ashley Burch referencing every single possible action or situation in the game and from what I've seen the other characters aren't better in that regard.
This is what happens when nobody tells the designers when to stop and refine their shit.

Actually had me a little interested in the game. Then I heard what the characters sound like and how frequently they talk because those 2 videos cut the dialog to as little as possible.
But gameplay wise, I realized they weren't going for a borderlands thing and put more of the dev time into trying to make the next big competitive thing. Making half a singleplayer half a multiplayer game just always leaves one or both sides getting the short end of the stick. I would play the story mode but I know it's just gimped to hell and back and have zero interest in playing a moba, especially one like this.

Okay, so. I went to sleep. I wake up to see Battleborn have 8 more hours played. It's at 116 hours when I woke up. Last time I played, the hours were at 108 hours played. Steam was offline, I checked it through mobile, so nobody accessed my steam account and I don't family share. Basically, it keeps clocking in hours even when I'm playing another game, hell, even when I'm offline and the computers off. Now it's at 130 hours and I haven't played since.
