Skyrim doesn't let me go on an adventure. It just gives me chores to do.

The only Zelda game that let's me go on an adventure is the first fucking one. The others hold your hand through a story.

Fallout new vegas kinda let's me go on an adventure because I choose where to go and there's stuff that happens without some story to tell me why I'm there.

What other games let me have an adventure and use my wit to solve things and explore dangerous places no one would dare go?
>>
>>339777748
Shadow of the Colossus
Witcher 3

These two games definitely have something grand about them when it comes to giving you that sense of adventure.
>>
>>339777748
Witcher 3. It became a overhyped meme, but it's legit good.
>>
>>339777927
>>339777938
Never played or spoiled anything about Witcher 3 so I'll add that to my list.

Shadow of the Colossus was perfect for an adventure so I might pick it up and replay it.
>>
>>339778161
Another would be Dragon's Dogma too. Goddamn, that game on the PC is fucking heavenly.
>>
>>339778515
Dragon's Dogma is garbage.
>>
If your willing to deal with the new player annoying shit. Dwarf fortress adventure mode is top tier adventuring.

Dragons Dogma is indeed an adventure, and it has some pretty good gameplay too

3d games that use the main buttons for attacking and such bother me
I played darksiders 2 right after dark souls and was such ass at it for the longest time because I was instinctually hitting r1 to attack

At one point I switched the binds up but only became more confused by the mismatched prompts
>>
>>339778826
Dwarf Fortress is amazing is you get immersed into it, but at a casual perspective it looks nerdy and difficult. Adventure mode is literally the best sandbox RPG with the most 'freedom' that I know of. LITERALLY do anything you want that is realistic, and it keeps getting updates.

Xenoblade, both games, full stop.

All others can go to bed. There is nothing, NOTHING, like these two games when it comes to pure adventure.
>>
>>339778826
Dwarf Fortress has two modes, Fortress and Adventure mode
Fortress mode you have a fort with dwarves on an embark square that you pick in the world. At this point you can't leave that area but tons of things from goblin ambushes to fire-spewing forgotten beasts will come and pester your fort dependent mostly on your wealth.
In adventure it's mostly just a roguelike RPG, you make your character and go around the world on an adventure. I don't know much about adventure because I never learned how to play it, but it sounds like your best bet.

There's also plenty of other roguelike adventure games to tickle your fancy, Brogue is a neat free one that comes to mind.

Resident Evil 4 and 5
Any Tomb Raider (the recent ones if you want less backtracking)
Metro series
Soulsborne games
Uncharted series
Last of Us
Diablo 1 (and maybe 2)
Half-Life series
Fanmaps for any Source shooter can sometimes be interesting to explore too

Also TES/Fallout are 10x better once you find the right mods (ex: creature and advanced melee overhauls in Oblivion, every major IRL gun brand in NV, some in 3, entire new worlds for Skyrim, etc)

And if you choose Witcher 3, don't forget the Blood and Wine dlc, it's very pretty to look at.
>>
>>339778826
Think d&d in vidya form with even more freedom. It's incredibally difficult for new players and has a steep learning curve. But after you get past it dwarf fortress is one of the most immersive rpg's out there. You can literally do almost anything you want to do. From saving some kidnapped children, to killing literally every living thing in the world until it is a desolate wasteland.

The writing's not exactly spectacular yet (he's getting assistance), but the art is miles ahead of Prequel's. Also already got new characters coming in, so the original intro getting discarded wasn't a total waste.

Also the guy's been busy for over a month with college finals, but has been back to work recently. New update hopefully any day now.
>>
This game was exactly what you were looking for, OP. This was adventure to a T.
Wanted to go somewhere? Had to ask other players for directions and / or a guide.
If you went off by yourself and just explored the world (which was massive), you'd ALWAYS find some random but interesting thing that piqued your imagination, that, chances are, few others had seen in a while.
Go out into the desert, you'll come across some camp, or tomb, or quest area, or little village... same for literally anywhere else. If you were unlucky you'd stumble on a particularly interesting area, but discover a massive raid boss and have your shit pushed in.

It shut down years ago. RIP. I miss this game so so much. This really was the closest thing to an adventure in gaming.

If exploring space is what you're into, X3 Albion Prelude (or Terran Conflict) is a pretty cool game

Quite a few sectors for you to adventure into, and later on you can do some really cool shit like owning tons of ships, building self-sustaining torpedo complexes, or even just being a trader who eventually gets a space truckin empire
Shitloads of great mods too

I'm not saying an adventure can't have a story. But when the exploration is locked behind a story it's not an adventure, it's more like a safari. you get to just loom at things but only as the car moves. And what I ment from Skyrim is that you don't actually find new things or unearth wonders. You find a person or item and he (or the item) tells you to go talk to some other guy or kill some things and return to him and that's your reward. Not the reward of actually finding something and exploring uncharted territory.

>>339784116

Haven't checked all suggestions, but anyone got less combat oriented picks?
I always dig when the enviroment itself is the biggest enemy, but sadly most games who focus on that usually only accept one approach (like Zelda games only having one puzzle solution).

I don't care what my end goal is, but something that has many ways to be reached?
