OP the game you just described is every singleplayer fps ever. DOOM did something else like let you explore and find collectables. You have to move about an arena to not die and it's not just stand and shoot and take cover like every COD the exists under the sun. different enemies are weaker to different types of weapons.

Are these new concepts to fps? Hell no. But at least they brought these back to give life to a dying genre. The singleplayer fps. It's refreshing to have these features. DOOM is a solid 7-8/10

I'm like 5 levels in, and i'm finding it pretty dull.

It's way too linear, and the big battles are too forced.

The cinematic melee kill shit is really annoying too. Luckily i can just ignore it... however, the down side to this is that the game is balanced around it. You run out of ammo pretty fast without using this + chainsaw.

I'd give it a 6.5/10.

Doom 1/2 are both 9/10 for me. I'd rather replay them than play the new DOOM.

Well considering nightmare is locked the first time through I can't play on it yet. I just went with the normal difficulty I wasn't sure how hard the game was gonna be.

Am I near the end? If I am that kinda fucked up Wolfenstein TNO was at least 12-14 hours my first playthrough.

Lazarus Labs? I think it's split in two to accommodate the Cyberdemon boss fight at the end. They were probably taxing the consoles' memory too much to do it in a single map. Though it has a lot of vertical space to enable the reactor platforming it's not particularly large in terms of explorable space. I'd say Argent Facility is larger and that's a single map

There are times you might want to aim for a glory kill to leech some health and you have to calm down your tits not to kill them instead.

That's freelook, a different thing entirely - you'd need something newer like a sourceport to look up or down (and on something like ZDoom it doesn't look warped btw). But natively (original DOS executable), you COULD use a mouse to aim and even to move if you wanted. You're wrong buddy

You never get a long range upgrade considering that the grenade launcher is not a shotgun blast.
