Correct.
>>
No, that's a bizarrely popular myth with absolutely nothing to back it up.

It always was a Silent Hill game. People just like to pretend it wasn't originally going to be one so as to make its existence much easier to swallow.

It's not even awful, just very rough around the edges. I blame fanboys like Tom Hulett.

Quite the opposite. It was supposed to be Silent Hill 3 but they wanted to mix things up and that doing a Silent Hill game like the last two would wind up stale which they weren't even wrong about, IMO.. So they decided to experiment. However, to play things safe they decided to make a more traditional silent hill game along side it. Silent Hill 3 we know had a quicker dev cycle and as a result became Silent Hill 3 while the original intended Silent Hill 3 became Silent Hill 4.

"it wasn't supposed to be a silent hill game" came up as a meme because it's different and some people don't like it so this can be used an excuse to further shit on it and say it's not a REAL silent hill game.

I really liked this game

i just dont understand how silent hill 3 is so much better than 4 in every way if they pushed it out like a year earlier than its successor

"In a sense this is true because the game began life as simply Room 302. However, it was always at least a spin-off of Silent Hill and the most important thing was simply that it be different to the previous games. Certainly if Silent Hill had not existed we would not have gotten the idea for The Room, so in that sense they have always been together. " - Masashi Tsuboyama

I didn't know two random youtubers were a greater authority on Silent Hill than Masashi Tsuboyama, somebody who worked on Silent Hill 1, 3, and 4. But sure, whatever, believe every rumor.

Honestly, aside from Yamoaka, Murakoshi and Tsuboyama, The Room had none of the big heavy hitters associated with the series working on it. The usual story writers, game designers, character creators, CGI movie makers and creature/boss designers were all doing Silent Hill 3.

I still like The Room, but it's clearly missing the big names that would have made it a much better game.

Silent Hill 4 was much better than 3 which did absolutely nothing new or interesting.
>>
>>339733295
Too bad 4 sucked, while 3 traded blows with 2 - different horror genres, but both at their respective crescendos.

4 was just all around meh,

Bruh, bruh pls.

Aside from the gimmick of the room itself, everything else pales in comparison.

Sh4 is just a retread of old SH areas (Hospital, Subway, hotel, shopping center, prison.)

It introduced a HUD for some immersion breaking reason.

It hindered you with equipment burden, forcing you back to your room over and over.

It tried having a combat system with shitty charge attacks.

It had weapon degradation for some ungodly reason.

Introduced unkillable enemies that chased you around the whole game unless you used a special limited use weapon.

Characters were almost complete blank slates, with Walter being the sole exception.

The second half of the game was a complete repeat of the first half of the game.

The second half of the game was an escort mission.

The second half of the game featured a total "not nemesis" who was just a dude in a trench-coat with a machine gun.

The ending of the game was dependent on how much damage the escort took. Said escort has bricks for A.I.

WHEELCHAIR ENEMIES AND BURPING NURSES AND PANTHER DOGS

Game suffered from a lack of bosses. One was a copypaste from SH2 and the other was said fight against Trench-coat Guy.

The Room had two interesting ideas: being trapped in your apartment, and the 21 Sacrament Killings. Every other new thing it tried to implement was horribly, HORRIBLY executed.

Fantastic OST though.
